'Border: 1 Ghost Pain': Ein Jahr nach dem Ende des Vierten Weltkriegs 2027 explodiert eine Bombe in Newport City und tötet einen hochrangigen Waffenverkäufer, welcher in Kontakt mit der mysteriösen Organisation 501 stand. Motoko Kusanagi, eine extraordinäre Hackerin und Cyborg, wird beauftragt, die Hintergründe dieses Attentats zu untersuchen. Doch die Mission gestaltet sich schwieriger als gedacht.
'Border: 2 Ghost Whisper': Kazuya Soga soll für seine Gräueltaten im Qhardistani-Krieg zur Rechenschaft gezogen werden - doch er besteht auf seiner Unschuld und beauftragt Batou den versteckten Beweis zu beschaffen. Auch Motoko Kusanagi soll der Sache auf den Grund gehen und gerät dabei nicht nur mit Batou aneinander, sondern muss auch herausfinden, wer ihren Logicoma-Roboter gehackt hat - und wozu.
'Border: 3 Ghost Tears': Eine Reihe terroristischer Aktivitäten hält die Bewohner von Newport City in Atem und es liegt an Motoko Kusanagi und Batou die Verantwortlichen zur Strecke zu bringen. Aber auch Togusa hat alle Hände voll zu tun, denn er findet heraus, dass zwischen zwei Anschlägen eine Verbindung besteht und Motokos Liebhaber, der Cyborg-Techniker Hose, darin verwickelt zu sein scheint.
'Border: 4 Ghost Stands Alone': Als Motoko Kusanagi und ihr Team am Tatort ankommen, bietet sich ihnen ein Anblick des Grauens. Ein Mädchen, das verloren zwischen all den Leichen steht, scheint hinter dem entsetzlichen Blutbad zu stecken. Was bezweckte es damit? Warum sind da zwei Ghosts in seinem Körper? Und was hat es mit diesem Fire-Starter-Virus auf sich, der künstliche Gehirne angreift und auch Motokos eigenem Team zu schaffen macht?
Pyrophoric Cult: Alle Insassen eines Passagierflugzeugs kommen bei einem Bombenanschlag ums Leben. Kusanagis Team wird eingeschaltet und Sprengstoffexperte Borma findet schnell heraus, dass eine Ariel-Cyberprothese an Bord explodiert ist. Als Batou und Togusa die Wohnung des vermeintlichen Selbstmordattentäters durchsuchen wollen, ist der amerikanische Geheimdienst schon vor Ort. Kusanagi stellt Aramaki deswegen zur Rede und erfährt, dass auch die Amerikaner dem Broker des Fire-Starter-Virus auf der Spur sind. Sie nennen ihn Pyromaniac und vermuten, dass er sich derzeit in Japan aufhält, um im Auftrag des Kartells Colonel Hozumi zu eliminieren ...

Motoko Kusanagi, an extraordinary hacker and cyborg, is assigned to investigate the background to this assassination. But the mission turns out to be more difficult than expected.
'Border: 2 Ghost Whisper': Kazuya Soga is to be held accountable for his atrocities in the Qhardistani War - but he insists on his innocence and commissions Batou to obtain the hidden evidence. Motoko Kusanagi is also supposed to get to the bottom of the matter and not only clashes with Batou, but also has to find out who hacked her Logicoma robot - and for what purpose.
'Border: 3 Ghost Tears': A series of terrorist activities keep the residents of Newport City on tenterhooks and it's up to Motoko Kusanagi and Batou to hunt down those responsible. But Togusa also has his hands full, because he finds out that there is a connection between two attacks and Motoko's lover, the cyborg technician Hose, seems to be involved.
'Border: 4 Ghost Stands Alone': When Motoko Kusanagi and her team arrive at the scene, they are presented with a sight of horror. A girl standing lost among all the corpses seems to be behind the horrific bloodbath. What was the purpose of it? Why are there two ghosts in his body? And what is it about this fire starter virus that attacks artificial brains and also causes problems for Motoko's own team?
Pyrophoric Cult: All occupants of a passenger plane are killed in a bomb attack. Kusanagi's team is called in and explosives expert Borma quickly finds out that an Ariel cyberprosthesis has exploded on board. When Batou and Togusa want to search the apartment of the alleged suicide bomber, the American secret service is already on the scene. Kusanagi confronts Aramaki about this and learns that the Americans are also on the trail of the broker of the Fire Starter virus. They call him Pyromaniac and suspect that he is currently in Japan to eliminate Colonel Hozumi on behalf of the cartel ...
