Für Erik (Ulrich Thomsen) und Anna (Trine Dyrholm) beginnt alles wie ein Traum. Als Erik eine großzügige Villa in einem Kopenhagener Nobelviertel erbt, beschließt das Paar, sein konventionelles Familienleben hinter sich zu lassen, und gründet mit Freunden und Bekannten eine Kommune. Der Alltag der kunterbunten Hausgemeinschaft aus Paaren, Singles und Kindern ist geprägt von Freundschaft, Liebe und fröhlich-entspanntem Laissez-faire. Regelmäßige Partys, gemeinsame Essen und Hausversammlungen an der großen Tafel stärken das Gemeinschaftsgefühl und bis auf kleinere Fehlbeträge in der Bierkasse scheint alles zu stimmen. Doch als Erik sich in die hübsche Studentin Emma (Helene Reingaard Neumann) verliebt und sie ins Haus aufnimmt, droht die von lässigem Miteinander geprägte Stimmung zu kippen. Der Konflikt zwischen privaten Bedürfnissen und großen Idealen wird zu einer Zerreißprobe für die verlassene Anna und die gesamte Kommune. Die Zeit der Liebe geht zu Ende, die Zeit der Abschiede hat begonnen. Und schließlich wird Anna in ein neues Leben aufbrechen...

Wie schon bei 'Submarino' (2010) und 'Die Jagd' (2012) schrieb Vinterberg das Skript zusammen mit dem Filmemacher Tobias Lindholm ('A War' 2015). Neben den beiden dänischen Spitzenschauspielern Trine Dyrholm ('Love Is All You Need', 'Das Fest') und Ulrich Thomsen ('In einer besseren Welt', 'Das Fest') gehören dem wunderbar schrägen Ensemble von 'Die Kommune' auch die international bekannten Darsteller Fares Fares ('Schändung', 'Jalla Jalla') und Lars Ranthe ('Die Jagd', 'Adams Äpfel') an. Der Film feierte im Wettbewerb der Berlinale 2016 seine Premiere.

For Erik (Ulrich Thomsen) and Anna (Trine Dyrholm), everything starts like a dream. When Erik inherits a spacious villa in a posh district of Copenhagen, the couple decides to leave their conventional family life behind and founds a commune with friends and acquaintances. The everyday life of the motley household of couples, singles and children is characterized by friendship, love and cheerful and relaxed laissez-faire. Regular parties, joint meals and house meetings at the large table strengthen the sense of community and except for smaller shortfalls in the beer cash register, everything seems to be right. But when Erik falls in love with the pretty student Emma (Helene Reingaard Neumann) and takes her into the house, the mood of casual togetherness threatens to change. The conflict between private needs and great ideals becomes a test of strength for the abandoned Anna and the entire community. The time of love is coming to an end, the time of farewells has begun. In addition to the two top Danish actors Trine Dyrholm ('Love Is All You Need', 'The Feast') and Ulrich Thomsen ('In a Better World', 'The Feast'), the wonderfully quirky ensemble of 'The Commune' also includes the internationally renowned actors Fares Fares ('Desecration', 'Jalla Jalla') and Lars Ranthe ('The Hunt', 'Adam's Apples'). The film premiered in competition at the 2016 Berlinale.
