Als über der syrischen Wüste zwei Triebwerke ausfallen, bedeutet das für Flugkapitän Jamie Faulkner (Lex Barker), seine Crew und die Touristen an Bord einen zwar unfreiwilligen, aber vielversprechenden Aufenthalt in Beirut. Der Kurzurlaub im Libanon erweist sich jedoch vor allem für Chefsteward Norman Jones (Mickey Rooney) als problematisch, weil dieser dem Gangster Malouf (Walter Slezak) Gold im Wert von 40.000 englischen Pfund unterschlagen hat. Als die Verbrecher Jones auf dem Flughafen entdecken nehmen sie seine Verfolgung durch ganz Beirut auf. Kapitän Faulkner eilt dem durchtriebenen Steward zu Hilfe ohne zu wissen, dass dieser ein Schmuggler ist. Als Malouf versucht, Stewardess Louise Braganza (Helga Sommerfeld) zu entführen und gegen Jones einzutauschen, kommt der in sie verliebte Faulkner erneut zur Rettung. Als Faulkner daraufhin erfährt, wer Jones wirklich ist, will er diesen an die Behörden ausliefern. Die Gangster greifen daraufhin zu erbitterten Mitteln...
'In Beirut sind die Nächte lang' (1965), auch bekannt unter dem Videotitel 'Der Söldner des Syndikats', ist ein britischer Abenteuer-Thriller mit Superstar Lex Barker, der auf einem Roman von Filmproduzent Harry Alan Towers basiert. Auf Towers Geschichte 'Victim Five' basierte auch der von ihm produzierte Actionfilm 'Die Verdammten der blauen Berge' von 1964, ebenfalls mit 'Old Shatterhand' Lex Barker in der Hauptrolle. 'In Beirut sind die Nächte lang' entstand an Originalschauplätzen in Beirut und Byblos unter Mitwirkung von Stars wie den vierfach Oscar-nominierten Mickey Rooney und 'Hui-Buh - Das Schlossgespenst' Stimme Hans Clarin.

When two engines fail over the Syrian desert, it means an involuntary but promising stay in Beirut for flight captain Jamie Faulkner (Lex Barker), his crew and the tourists on board. However, the short vacation in Lebanon proves to be problematic, especially for chief steward Norman Jones (Mickey Rooney), because he has embezzled gold worth 40,000 English pounds from the gangster Malouf (Walter Slezak). When the criminals discover Jones at the airport, they begin his pursuit throughout Beirut. Captain Faulkner rushes to the aid of the cunning steward, not knowing that he is a smuggler. When Malouf tries to kidnap stewardess Louise Braganza (Helga Sommerfeld) and exchange her for Jones, Faulkner, who is in love with her, comes to the rescue again. When Faulkner learns who Jones really is, he wants to hand him over to the authorities. The gangsters then resort to bitter means...
'The Nights Are Long in Beirut' (1965), also known by the video title 'The Mercenary of the Syndicate', is a British adventure thriller film starring superstar Lex Barker, based on a novel by film producer Harry Alan Towers. Tower's story 'Victim Five' was also the basis of the action film 'The Wretched of the Blue Mountains' from 1964, which he produced, also starring 'Old Shatterhand' Lex Barker. 'In Beirut Are the Nights Long' was shot at original locations in Beirut and Byblos with the participation of stars such as four-time Oscar nominee Mickey Rooney and 'Hui-Buh - Das Schlossgespenst' voice Hans Clarin.
