The Hainich National Park was founded on 31.12.1997 as the 13th national park in Germany. Its area is 7,600 hectares. With a total area of approx. 16,000 hectares, the Hainich is the largest contiguous deciduous forest area in Germany. It is located in the center of Germany, in Thuringia, in the triangle of the cities of Eisenach, Mühlhausen and Bad Langensalza.Im Hainich National Park, the 'primeval forest in the middle of Germany' should be able to develop undisturbed. In accordance with the motto of the German national parks - let nature be nature - 90 percent of the total area of the national park is currently already unused.
