Ein kleiner Junge ist mit seinem Vater bei einen Fußballspiel, als dieser vor den Augen seines Sohnes erstochen wird. Zehn Jahre später: Tiago (Thiago Martins), der kleine Junge vom Fußballspiel, und sein bester Freund Sabia (Luís Otávio Fernandes) leben in einer der vielen Favelas von Rio de Janeiro. Während Tiagos Bruder Marcos (Gabriel Mattar) alles daran setzt, dass Tiago zur Schule geht und einen Weg aus den Slums bekommt, strebt Sabia eine Karriere beim Drogenboss des Viertels an. Auch Tiago hat einen anderen Ausweg für sich aus der Favela vor Augen: Er möchte Fußballer werden. Und er hat auch das Zeug dazu. Das erkennt auch Tubaro (Lui Mendes), der Drogenboss, und wird - zum Leidwesen Marcos - zum Förderer von Tiago. Aber Tubaros Unterstützung ist gekoppelt an Bedingungen. Tiago muss sich von Kriminalität und Tubaros Schwester Juliana fernhalten und fleißig trainieren. Als Sabia Tiago in einen Mord verwickelt, beginnt eine unaufhaltsame Spirale von Gewalt, und Tiagos Weg aus den Slums scheint für immer versperrt.

A little boy is at a football match with his father when he is stabbed to death in front of his son. Ten years later: Tiago (Thiago Martins), the little boy from the soccer game, and his best friend Sabia (Luís Otávio Fernandes) live in one of the many favelas of Rio de Janeiro. While Tiago's brother Marcos (Gabriel Mattar) does everything he can to ensure that Tiago goes to school and gets a way out of the slums, Sabia strives for a career with the drug lord of the neighborhood. Tiago also has another way out of the favela in mind for himself: he wants to become a footballer. And he has what it takes. Tubaro (Lui Mendes), the drug lord, also recognizes this and becomes - to Marco's chagrin - a supporter of Tiago. But Tuboro's support is conditional. Tiago has to stay away from crime and Tubaro's sister Juliana and train diligently. When Sabia involves Tiago in a murder, an unstoppable spiral of violence begins, and Tiago's way out of the slums seems to be blocked forever.
