Die beiden Kumpels Eddie (Crispin Glover) und Frank (Jason Lee) träumen vom großen Geld, doch alles was sie anpacken geht schief. Auch der Zigarettenschmuggel für den knallharten Nachtclub-Besitzer Spider (Pruitt Taylor Vince) endet im totalen Fiasko. Eddies Schrottkübel fliegt unterwegs in die Luft und mit ihm Zigaretten im Wert von 250.000 Dollar. Spider läßt ihnen die Wahl: Entweder sie bringen ihm das Geld binnen einer Woche zurück oder er läßt sie umbringen. In ihrer Panik kommen die beiden auf die Schnapsidee, die Leiche von Crystal Harkness (Melissa Keller) auszugraben, die laut Zeitungsberichten mit einer wertvollen Halskette bestattet worden sein soll. Gesagt, getan - nur finden Frank und Eddie keine Kette, die man versetzen könnte. Die Ereignisse überschlagen sich endgültig, als sie die Leiche nicht mehr los werden, der etwas trottelige Eddie Gefühle für die Tote entwickelt und sie herausfinden, dass Crystal anscheinend von Spider ermordet wurde. Eigentlich, so könnte man meinen, war's das für die beiden.

The two buddies Eddie (Crispin Glover) and Frank (Jason Lee) dream of big money, but everything they tackle goes wrong. Cigarette smuggling for the badass nightclub owner Spider (Pruitt Taylor Vince) also ends in a total fiasco. Eddie's scrap bucket flies into the air on the way and with it cigarettes worth 250,000 dollars. Spider gives them a choice: either they bring him back the money within a week or he has them killed. In their panic, the two come up with the crazy idea of digging up the body of Crystal Harkness (Melissa Keller), who, according to newspaper reports, is said to have been buried with a valuable necklace. No sooner said than done - but Frank and Eddie can't find a chain that could be moved. Events finally come thick and fast when they can't get rid of the body, the somewhat goofy Eddie develops feelings for the dead woman and they find out that Crystal was apparently murdered by Spider. Actually, you might think, that's it for the two of them.
