Wer sich diesem zeitdokumentarischen Musik-Kleinod widmet, wird erst einmal stutzen, ob der schwarz-weißen Bilder des Hauptkonzertes aus dem dänischen Kopenhagen von 1972, und das im digitalen Zeitalter. Bevor die Farbfernseh-Generation aber auf die Barrikaden geht, sollte sie sich bewusst werden, dass das vorliegende Konzert der 'Machine Head' Tour der einzige zusammenhängende Live-Mitschnitt der berühmt-berüchtigten Mark II-Besetzung ist, sprich Ian Gillan (Vocals), Ritchi Blackmore (Lead-Guitar), Jon Lord (Keyboards), Roger Glover (Bass), Ian Paice (Drums) gemeinsam auf der Bühne. Zudem ist zu erwähnen, dass dieses furiose Spektakel nie komplett gezeigt wurde, sondern in seiner Gänze in den Archiven schlummerte. Spätestens nach der grandiosen Performance und Gillans's Urschrei bei 'Child In Time' hat man das Farbfernsehen vergessen und lässt sich von dem nostalgischen Charme dieser Aufnahmen mitreißen. Der farbige Mitschnitt aus New York 1973 mit der einmaligen historischen Darbietung von 'Smoke on the Water' im zweiten Teil der DVD sollte dann auch den letzten Zweifler überzeugen. Es mag die ein oder andere DVD von 'Deep Purple' bereits geben, sieht man aber mal von dem Rock-Meets-Classic-Projekt 'A Concerto For Group And Opera' ab, handelt es sich dabei zum größten Teil um Dokumentationen, obskure Videoclip-Kopplungen, krude Zusammenschnitte oder halt Konzerte einer späteren Zeit und Besetzung, denen das Flair und Feuer des vorliegenden Werkes gänzlich fehlt.

Anyone who devotes themselves to this contemporary documentary music gem will be taken aback by the black-and-white images of the main concert from Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1972, and that in the digital age. But before the color TV generation goes to the barricades, they should be aware that this concert of the 'Machine Head' tour is the only coherent live recording of the infamous Mark II line-up, i.e. Ian Gillan (vocals), Ritchi Blackmore (lead guitar), Jon Lord (keyboards), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums) together on stage. It should also be mentioned that this furious spectacle was never shown in its entirety, but slumbered in its entirety in the archives. At the latest after the grandiose performance and Gillans' primal scream on 'Child In Time', you have forgotten about color television and let yourself be carried away by the nostalgic charm of these recordings. The color recording from New York in 1973 with the unique historical performance of 'Smoke on the Water' in the second part of the DVD should convince even the last doubter. There may already be one or the other DVD of 'Deep Purple', but apart from the Rock-Meets-Classic project 'A Concerto For Group And Opera', these are mostly documentaries, obscure video clip couplings, crude compilations or just concerts of a later time and line-up, which completely lack the flair and fire of the present work.
