Blanche (Rue McClanahan), die Männer jagende Südstaatenschönheit, bringt immer wieder neue Eroberungen mit nach Hause, was Dorothy (Bea Arthur), einer geschiedenen Ex-Lehrerin, nicht wirklich in den Kram passt, und das macht sie auch immer mit viel Sarkasmus deutlich. Rose (Betty White), die Naivität in Person, kann den Gesprächen der anderen meist nicht so recht folgen, hat jedoch ein gutmütiges Herz. Dorothys Mutter Sophia (Estelle Getty) gibt zu jedem Thema ihren speziellen Kommentar ab und komplettiert die Damenrunde mit Geschichten aus ihrer Jugend. Die daraus resultierenden Zwistigkeiten werden aber spätestens am Abend in der Küche bei einem Stück Käsekuchen bereinigt.

Blanche (Rue McClanahan), the male-chasing southern beauty, always brings home new conquests, which doesn't really suit Dorothy (Bea Arthur), a divorced ex-teacher, and she always makes that clear with a lot of sarcasm. Rose (Betty White), the naivety personified, usually can't really follow the conversations of the others, but has a good-natured heart. Dorothy's mother Sophia (Estelle Getty) gives her special commentary on each topic and completes the ladies' round with stories from her youth. However, the resulting disputes are resolved in the kitchen in the evening at the latest over a piece of cheesecake.
