Vor der dystopischen und zugleich malerischen Kulisse Finnlands spielt Heldinnengeschichte von 'Memory of Water' in einer von Trinkwassermangel dominierten Gesellschaft. Der Film zeichnet so das Bild einer Zukunft, die geprägt ist von Ressourcenknappheit. Auf dem Planeten gibt es kein Süßwasser mehr. Noria (Saga Sarkola), die neu ernannte junge Teemeisterin ihres Dorfes, findet heraus, dass ihr verstorbener Vater ein Geheimnis hütete. An einem Ort namens 'Lost Lands' soll es noch unentdeckte Trinkwasservorkommen geben. Doch die vom Militär geführte Regierung bestraft illegalen Wasserhandel hart und überwacht die Bevölkerung. Norias engste Freundin, die loyale, aber sture Sanja (Mimosa Willamo), ist die Einzige, der sie ihr Geheimnis anvertrauen kann. Bis sie Taro (Lauri Tilkanen) trifft, ein Wasserspezialist, der auch nach einer Lösung für die Wasserknappheit sucht. Während das Geheimnis die beiden Frauen immer weiter auseinandertreibt, kommt Noria Taro immer näher. Doch er ist nicht der, für den sie ihn gehalten hat. Noria muss fliehen, um herauszufinden, ob es noch Hoffnung gibt. Doch mit der Freiheit ist es wie mit ihrem Geheimnis - für beides muss sie einen hohen Preis bezahlen...

Set against the dystopian and at the same time picturesque backdrop of Finland, the heroine story of 'Memory of Water' takes place in a society dominated by a shortage of drinking water. The film thus paints a picture of a future that is characterized by resource scarcity. There is no more fresh water on the planet. Noria (Saga Sarkola), the newly appointed young tea master of her village, finds out that her deceased father was keeping a secret. At a place called 'Lost Lands', there are said to be undiscovered drinking water deposits. But the military-led government severely punishes illegal water trade and monitors the population. Noria's closest friend, the loyal but stubborn Sanja (Mimosa Willamo), is the only one to whom she can confide her secret. Until she meets Taro (Lauri Tilkanen), a water specialist who is also looking for a solution to the water shortage. As the mystery drives the two women further and further apart, Noria gets closer and closer to Taro. But he is not who she thought he was. Noria has to flee to find out if there is still hope. But freedom is like her secret - she has to pay a high price for both...
