Der 19-jährige David (Louis Hofmann) träumt von einem Leben als Konzertpianist auf den großen Bühnen der Welt. In seiner Heimat war er mit seiner Begabung immer etwas Besonderes. Als Student am Musikkonservatorium merkt er aber schnell, dass er nur ein Talent unter vielen ist. Sein Kommilitone Walter ist sein größter Konkurrent, nicht nur musikalisch. Nur die Affäre mit der selbstbewussten und lebenshungrigen Gesangsstudentin Marie (Liv Lisa Fries) gibt ihm die Kraft für das begehrte Stipendium in New York zu kämpfen. Doch mit wachsenden Erwartungen von allen Seiten beginnt David die Kontrolle über sein Leben zu verlieren...

Nicht nur auf dem Klavier schlägt 'Prélude' starke und intensive Töne an: Das Kinodebüt der deutsch-ungarisch-iranischen Autorin und Regisseurin Sabrina Sarabi ist ein berührender, konsequenter Film über Erwartungen, Liebe, Leidenschaft - ein präzises, sinnliches Portrait über eine Generation, die oft das Gefühl hat, nicht gut genug zu sein. Vor der Kamera von Max Preiss (siehe 'The Cleaners') konnte Sarabi zwei der gefragtesten, derzeit international bekanntesten jungen, deutschen Schauspielern gewinnen: Berlinale-Shooting-Star 2017 Louis Hofmann (aus 'Dark') und Liv Lisa Fries ('Babylon Berlin'), die mit dem Preis der deutschen Filmkritik als beste Darstellerin 2015 ausgezeichnet wurde. Neben ihnen brillieren in dem namhaften Ensemble Johannes Nussbaum ('Vorstadtweiber'), Ursina Lardi ('Das weiße Band'), Saskia Rosendahl ('Wir sind jung. Wir sind stark.') und Jenny Schily ('Die Frau, die sich traut'). Sarabis Leinwanddebüt 'Prélude' wurde zur prestigeträchtigen Work-in-Progress-Sektion des 'Les Arcs European Film Festival' eingeladen und feierte im Juni 2019 seine Premiere auf dem Filmfest in München. 'Prélude' ist eine Produktion von Markus Kaatsch für 'about:film' sowie Jonas und Jakob D. Weydemann, die im gleichen Jahr bei den Filmfestspielen in Cannes auf die renommierte Variety-Liste '10 Producers to Watch' aufgenommen wurden. Andrea Hanke für den 'WDR' und Stefanie Groß für den 'SWR' fungierten als Ko-Produzenten bei diesem vom Kuratorium Junger Deutscher Film unterstützten Projekt.

Sarabi's screen debut 'Prélude' was invited to the prestigious work-in-progress section of the 'Les Arcs European Film Festival' and premiered at the Munich Film Festival in June 2019. Weydemann, who were included in the prestigious '10 Producers to Watch' list at the Cannes Film Festival in the same year.
