A biting French comedy by and starring Agnès Jaoui ('Madame Aurora and the Scent of Spring') and Jean-Pierre Bacri ('Life is a Feast'): What a party! Nathalie (Léa Drucker), the busy television producer, invites you to a big housewarming party in her villa just outside Paris, with an illustrious guest list. Her brother-in-law Castro (Bacri) has his best years as a star presenter on television behind him. Castro's ex-wife Hélène (Jaoui) and sister of Nathalie is once again only advertising her latest refugee project. Their daughter Nina Mareuil (Nina Meurisse) is about to publish her second novel, in which her parents don't exactly come off well. The garden fills inexorably with people of all kinds, from the city and the countryside, wannabe stars, hipsters and bon vivants, YouTubers and influencers, musicians and in the middle of it all the hopelessly crushing waitress Samantha (Sarah Suco), who only wants one thing: a selfie with Castro. You admire and despise each other, dance and sing, feel cool and alive - and maybe a bit lonely at the vanity fair. As the champagne corks pop and the party is in full swing, the civilized masks fall inexorably, revealing an unpredictable powder keg of emotions...
Director and leading actress Agnès Jaoui (see 'Madame Aurora and the Scent of Spring' 2017) creates a kaleidoscope of our society today in her biting French comedy 'Champagne & Macarons - An Unforgettable Garden Party' (2018). The screenplay was written together with her long-time partner Jean-Pierre Bacri. With razor-sharp humour, they dissect both the abysses and the polished surfaces of their protagonists and show what happens when opposites collide. Jaoui and Bacri ('Life is a Feast'), one of France's most successful actors, are joined by a top-class ensemble of actors, including Léa Drucker ('After the Judgment'), Kévin Azaïs ('Love at First Blow') and Nina Meurisse ('A Life').
