Der junge Raghdan Aziz (Nikesh Patel) ist vor einigen Jahren aus Indien geflohen, um den Heiratsplänen seines traditionsbewussten Vaters zu entrinnen. Seine neue Heimat ist der kleine irische Küstenort 'Sligo', wo er bei seinem Onkel lebt und mit Maeve Logan (Sarah Bolger) auch bereits die große Liebe gefunden hat. Doch dann kommt es ausgerechnet bei seiner Geburtstagsfeier zu einem Streit mit Maeve und ihrem Vater Martin Logan (Colm Meaney), außerdem steht plötzlich sein Vater Amir Aziz (Art Malik) vor der Tür, der seinem Sohn ein ungewöhnliches Geburtstagsgeschenk machen möchte: einen Schlachthof, den die beiden in einen Halal-Betrieb verwandeln sollen. Raghdan muss also versuchen, seine Beziehung zu retten und zugleich den Frieden im Dorf zu bewahren, wo die Idee seines Vaters zwar für neue Arbeitsplätze, aber auch für einigen Aufruhr sorgt...
Nicht nur die Iren sind zutiefst menschlich, sondern auch die Inder, die sich in 'Halaleluja - Iren sind menschlich!' (2018) unter der Regie von Conor McDermottroe einen nicht nur religiös motivierten Culture-Clash mit der konservativen irischen Landbevölkerung liefern. Vor allem auch dank Colm Meaney (aus 'Star Trek') ist 'Halaleluja' ein höchst charmanter und humorvoller Blick auf Vorurteile und wie man ihnen begegnet, bei dem man u. a. auch den deutschen Shooting-Star David Kross ('Ballon') in einer Nebenrolle bewundern kann.

Young Raghdan Aziz (Nikesh Patel) fled India a few years ago to escape his tradition-conscious father's marriage plans. His new home is the small Irish coastal town of 'Sligo', where he lives with his uncle and has already found great love with Maeve Logan (Sarah Bolger). But then there is an argument with Maeve and her father Martin Logan (Colm Meaney) at his birthday party, and suddenly his father Amir Aziz (Art Malik) is at the door, who wants to give his son an unusual birthday present: a slaughterhouse, which the two are to turn into a halal business. So Raghdan has to try to save his relationship and at the same time keep the peace in the village, where his father's idea creates new jobs, but also some turmoil...
Not only the Irish are deeply human, but also the Indians, who are depicted in 'Halaleluja - Irish are human!' (2018), directed by Conor McDermottroe, will deliver a culture clash with the conservative Irish rural population that is not only religiously motivated. Especially thanks to Colm Meaney (from 'Star Trek'), 'Halaleluja' is a highly charming and humorous look at prejudices and how to counter them, in which you can also admire the German shooting star David Kross ('Ballon') in a supporting role.
