'Cupcakes', in diesem bonbonbunten Filmspektakel von Israels wohl bekanntestem Regisseur Eytan Fox ('Yossi', 'The Bubble', 'Mary Lou') erleben wir den schwulen Ofer (Ofer Shechter), der sich mit seinen Freundinnen Yael, Dana, Anat, Keren und Efrat das Finale des ESC - der im Film 'Universong' heißt - ansieht. Um die erfolgreiche Bäckerin Anat ihre Beziehungsprobleme vergessen zu lassen, erfinden die FreundInnen spontan ein Lied für sie. Das gelingt so gut, dass Ofer und sein Geliebter heimlich beschließen, das Lied als israelischen Beitrag für 'Universong' einzureichen. Als er und der Rest der 'Band dann aus den Medien erfahren, dass sie Israel beim Finale in Paris vertreten sollen, beginnt für die Freundinnen ein Leben in der Welt des Glamour. Der musikalische Wettbewerb wird aber auch zur Zerreißprobe ihrer Freundschaft...

'Cupcakes', in this candy-colored film spectacle by Israel's most famous director Eytan Fox ('Yossi', 'The Bubble', 'Mary Lou') we experience the gay Ofer (Ofer Shechter), who watches the final of the ESC - which is called 'Universong' in the film - with his girlfriends Yael, Dana, Anat, Keren and Efrat. In order to make the successful baker Anat forget her relationship problems, the friends spontaneously invent a song for her. This works so well that Ofer and his lover secretly decide to submit the song as an Israeli entry for 'Universong'. When he and the rest of the band learn from the media that they are to represent Israel at the finale in Paris, a life in the world of glamour begins for the friends. But the musical competition also becomes a test of their friendship...
