Das Ding mit Federn

After the unexpected death of his wife, a young father (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his young sons are suddenly left to fend for themselves. But the more he tries to find a foothold, the more clearly he feels an ominous presence in his apartment: an oversized, human-like crow that emerges from the shadows and can no longer be scared away. The deeper the father loses himself in his despair, the more difficult it is to separate the creature from his own troubled psyche - until he no longer knows what he actually has to protect his children from...

In his feature film 'The Thing with Feathers' (2025), director Dylan Southern filmed Max Porter's bestseller 'Grief is the Thing with Feathers', which was internationally celebrated as a theatre adaptation, as a psychological drama of radical expressionist imagery. Benedict Cumberbatch delivers alongside David Thewlis as the original English voice of the crow an intense, uncompromising interpretation of a man on the verge of self-dissolution that remains in the memory for a long time.
