Gene Reardon (Rutger Hauer), ein Polizist, der es nicht allzu weit gebracht hat, war vor vielen Jahren in einen Enthüllungsfall verwickelt, der damals mit dem Tod des entführten Mädchens endete. Und wieder kommt es zu einer Entführung. Diesmal ist ein schwerreicher Börsenmakler das Opfer. Gene wird von seinem Boss Lloyd Dyer (Andrew Dolan) als Verbindungsmann zwischen der Polizei und dem FBI ausgewählt. Als verantwortliche FBI-Agentin tritt Wallis Longsworth (Paulina Porizkova) an, die ehemalige Frau von Gene, die er aber immer noch liebt. Gene lebt alleine mit seiner Tochter Stacey (Sarah Ashley) und müht sich redlich, Licht in den Entführungsfall zu bringen. Doch diesmal läuft das Kidnapping nach einem anderen Muster. Die Frau des Opfers zahlt eine Million Dollar, und dem Täter gelingt es, mit dem Geld zu verschwinden. Jetzt gerät Gene Reardon in das Zielfeuer der Verdächtigungen, denn auf seinem Grundstück wurde das Tatfahrzeug mit der Leiche des Opfers entdeckt.

Gene Reardon (Rutger Hauer), a policeman who didn't make it too far, was involved in a revelation case many years ago that ended with the death of the kidnapped girl. And again there is a kidnapping. This time, a very rich stockbroker is the victim. Gene is chosen by his boss Lloyd Dyer (Andrew Dolan) as a liaison between the police and the FBI. The FBI agent in charge is Wallis Longsworth (Paulina Porizkova), Gene's former wife, whom he still loves. Gene lives alone with his daughter Stacey (Sarah Ashley) and makes an honest effort to shed light on the kidnapping case. But this time the kidnapping follows a different pattern. The victim's wife pays a million dollars, and the perpetrator manages to disappear with the money. Now Gene Reardon is caught in the target fire of suspicions, because the crime vehicle with the victim's body was discovered on his property.
