Paolo (Giuseppe Battiston) verbringt seinen Tag am liebsten in einer Taverne in einem kleinen Dorf nahe Goriza, wo jeder jeden kennt und Gerüchte sich schnell verbreiten. Paolo ist keiner, der Wein predigt und Wasser trinkt, ein 40 Jahre alter Außenseiter, zynisch und menschenfeindlich, ein professioneller Trinker und zwanghafter Lügner, der widerwillig in der Cafeteria eines Altersheims arbeitet und erfolglos dem Traum nachhängt, seine Ex-Frau Stefanja (Marjuta Slamic) zurück zu gewinnen. Alles ändert sich, als Zoran (Rok Prasnikar) auf der Bildfläche erscheint, ein 15 Jahre alter Junge mit dicken Brillengläsern, den Paolo von einer entfernten Verwandten 'geerbt' hat, der sonderbar spricht und etwas zurückgeblieben wirkt. Plötzlich ist Paolo Onkel und er empfindet das als große Last. Erst als er feststellt, dass Zoran ein begnadeter Darts-Spieler ist, ändert er seine Einstellung. Dank Zoran, so denkt er, hat er nun endlich eine Chance, sein Leben in die richtige Richtung zu lenken. Eines ist unumstritten: Paolo ist aus einer Lethargie erwacht, die eine Ewigkeit anhielt und strebt nun seine persönliche Erlösung an. Mit 'Zoran - Mein Neffe der Idiot' ('Zoran, il mio nipote scemo') hat Regiedebütant Matteo Oleotto eine skurrile Komödie geschaffen, die bewusst gegen die konventionellen Regeln des Kinos verstößt und eine ganz eigene Erzählstruktur entwickelt, in der er Wein und Film zusammenbringt. Im Zentrum des Geschehens steht die Beziehung zwischen dem Zyniker, Weiberhelden und Alkoholiker Paolo und seinem schüchtern-scheuen Loser-Neffen Zoran, den er despektierlich einen Idioten nennt, bis er dessen außergewöhnliches Talent für das Darts-Spiel erkennt und daraus im großen Stil Kapital zu schlagen gedenkt. Dieser schäbig-schmierige Säufer Paolo wird von dem großartigen Giuseppe Battiston verkörpert, den man aus Silvio Soldinis Filmen 'Brot & Tulpen' (2000) und 'Tage und Wolken' (2007) kennt und der zuletzt in dem Drama 'Venezianische Freundschaft' (2012) in den deutschen Kinos zu sehen war. 'Zoran - Mein Neffe der Idiot' war in seinem Heimatland Italien ein großer Publikumserfolg, wurde auf zahlreichen internationalen Festivals gefeiert und konnte im September 2013 auf der Biennale von Venedig in der Reihe 'Settimana della Critica' den Publikumspreis gewinnen. Oleottos im nordöstlichsten Zipfel Italiens angesiedeltes Erstlingswerk ist nicht nur das absurde Porträt einer seltsamen Männerfreundschaft, es singt auch ein Hohelied auf den edlen Saft der Rebe, den Wein, der hier gewissermaßen die dritte Hauptrolle spielt. Der Regisseur Matteo Oleotto wurde 1977 in Gorizia geboren. 2001 schloss er die 'Civica Accademia d’Arte Drammatica' 'Nico Pepe' in Udine im Fach Schauspiel erfolgreich ab. Danach folgte ein Studium der Filmregie am 'Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia' in Rom, das er 2005 ebenfalls erfolgreich beendete. Oleotto inszenierte die Kurzfilme 'A doppio filo', 'Casino', 'Can can', 'Stanza 21', 'Passeranno anche stanotte' und 'La luna di guardia'. Die Werke wurden auf zahlreichen internationalen Festivals gezeigt, erhielten diverse Preise und lobende Erwähnungen. Darüber hinaus arbeitete er als Regisseur von TV-Shows und Werbespots für diverse Fernsehsender. Zudem fungierte Oleotto bei Alfredo Covellis mehrfach ausgezeichnetem Kurzfilm 'Nonna si deve asciugare' als Koproduzent, Regieassistent und Schauspieler, und in Claudio Cupellinis Spielfilm 'Leziono di cioccolato' übernahm er eine der Hauptrollen. Bevor Oleotto sich ganz der Filmregie widmete, arbeitete er in einem Call-Center, als Rettungsschwimmer, als Umzugshelfer, Autowäscher, Arbeiter in einer Firma für Microtechnologie, als Nachtportier in einer psychiatrischen Einrichtung, als Ober, Kochgehilfe, Gärtner, Basketballschiedsrichter, Hotelportier und als Schwimmtrainer. Zum Zeitpunkt der deutschen Kinopremiere von 'Zoran - Mein Neffe der Idiot', im Juni 2014, arbeitete er bereits an seinem zweiten Spielfilm. In seiner Freizeit ist er im Weingeschäft tätig, hier kümmert er um den Weinberg, den er von seiner Familie geerbt hat.

With 'Zoran, il mio nipote scemo', debutant director Matteo Oleotto has created a bizarre comedy that deliberately violates the conventional rules of cinema and develops its very own narrative structure in which he brings wine and film together. At the center of the action is the relationship between the cynic, womanizer and alcoholic Paolo and his shy, shy loser nephew Zoran, whom he disrespectfully calls an idiot until he recognizes his extraordinary talent for darts and intends to capitalize on it on a large scale. This shabby, sleazy drunkard Paolo is embodied by the great Giuseppe Battiston, who is known from Silvio Soldini's films 'Bread & Tulips' (2000) and 'Days and Clouds' (2007) and who was last seen in German cinemas in the drama 'Venetian Friendship' (2012). 'Zoran - My Nephew the Idiot' was a great success with audiences in his home country Italy, was celebrated at numerous international festivals and won the audience award at the Venice Biennale in September 2013 in the series 'Settimana della Critica'. Oleotto's first work, set in the northeasternmost tip of Italy, is not only the absurd portrait of a strange male friendship, it also sings a hymn to the noble juice of the vine, the wine, which plays the third leading role here, so to speak.
