Regisseurin Liliana Cavani drehte mit 'Die Haut' (1981) nach 'Der Nachtportier' (1974) erneut ein provokantes wie drastisches Kriegsdrama mit absoluter Starbesetzung (u.a. Marcello Mastroianni, Ken Marshall und Alexandra King), das sich eindringlich mit den Themen Ausbeutung und Erniedrigung beschäftigt. Der Film nach dem Roman von Curzio Malaperte sorgte seinerzeit für einen regelrechten Skandal und war für die 'Goldene Palme' in Cannes nominiert.
