Regisseurin Asli Özge erzählt die Geschichte dreier junger Männer aus Istanbul, der einzigen Stadt, die sich über zwei Kontinente erstreckt. An der imaginären Grenze zwischen Asien und Europa, der Bosporusbrücke, kreuzen sich täglich die Lebenswege der unterschiedlichsten Menschen mit ihren eigenen Geschichten, Träumen und Hoffnungen. Einer von ihnen ist der Sammeltaxifahrer Umut (28), dessen Frau Cemile von einem Leben mit höherer gesellschaftlicher Anerkennung träumt. In 'Men on the Bridge - Köprüdekiler' spielen Laiendarsteller ihr eigenes Leben. In der Geschichte des Films stoßen die Protagonisten an ihre persönlichen Grenzen, gleichzeitig überschreitet der Film die Grenzen zwischen real und inszeniert, und bietet einen einzigartigen Einblick in das gesellschaftliche und politische Leben der Weltstadt Istanbul, der Kulturhauptstadt Europas 2010. 'Men on the Bridge - Köprüdekiler' ist bereits als bester Film in den nationalen Wettbewerben der Filmfestivals Istanbul und Adana ausgezeichnet worden. Nach der internationalen Premiere in Locarno konkurriert der Film im Wettbewerb des Sarajevo Film Festivals - einem der wichtigsten Festivals in der Balkanregion - und hat anschließend seine Nordamerika-Premiere auf dem Toronto Film Festival. Die Regisseurin Asli Özge ist in Istanbul aufgewachsen und lebt und arbeitet seit einigen Jahren in Berlin. Die Kamera führte dffb-Absolvent Emre Erkmen. Produziert wurde der Film von Fabian Massah von der Berliner Endorphine Production. Koproduzenten sind Yeni Sinemacilik ('Takva - Gottesfurcht') aus Istanbul und Kaliber Film aus Rotterdam.

Director Asli Özge tells the story of three young men from Istanbul, the only city that spans two continents. In 'Men on the Bridge - Köprüdekiler', amateur actors play their own lives. In the story of the film, the protagonists reach their personal limits, at the same time the film crosses the boundaries between real and staged, and offers a unique insight into the social and political life of the cosmopolitan city of Istanbul, the European Capital of Culture 2010. After the international premiere in Locarno, the film competes in competition at the Sarajevo Film Festival - one of the most important festivals in the Balkan region - and then has its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. The director Asli Özge grew up in Istanbul and has been living and working in Berlin for several years. The camera was led by dffb graduate Emre Erkmen. The film was produced by Fabian Massah of Berlin-based Endorphine Production. Co-producers are Yeni Sinemacilik ('Takva - Fear of God') from Istanbul and Kaliber Film from Rotterdam.
