Sara (Juana Acosta), erfolgreiche Managerin, lebt in 'Sevilla' und ist seit acht Jahren mit Daniel (Daniel Grao) verheiratet. Nicht mehr an die Zukunft ihrer Ehe glaubend, macht sie sich hinter dem Rücken ihres Mannes auf die Suche nach ihren eigenen vier Wänden. Zusammen mit dem unerfahrenen Immobilienmakler Óscar (Carlos Areces) besichtigt sie eine wunderschöne Wohnung, die abgesehen von den scheußlichen Tapeten zwar absolut perfekt wäre, jedoch einen entscheidenden Haken hat: Sara kann erst einziehen, wenn die derzeitige Eigentümerin Lola (Kiti Mánver) verstorben ist. Sara trifft sich mit Lola, die sich als wortgewandte, kettenrauchende und freigeistige Überlebende eines dreifachen Bypasses herausstellt. Eine Naturgewalt, deren Lebensfreude und Leidenschaft mit Saras eher konservativer Einstellung kollidiert. Als Sara entdeckt, dass ihr Mann sie betrügt, sucht sie Trost und Rat bei Lola, der ähnliches widerfuhr. Die beiden Frauen, die so unterschiedlich sind und doch in ihrer Einsamkeit vereint, schließen eine ungewöhnliche Freundschaft. Eine Freundschaft, die von Zuneigung, Gefühlen und viel Humor geprägt ist und am Ende über den Pakt, den sie mit dem Wohnungskauf beschlossen haben, hinauswächst...
Gute Freunde erkennt man leichter, wenn das Leben schwerer wird. 'Vier Wände für Zwei' (2020) ist das Spielfilmdebüt von Bernabé Rico, der zuvor bereits als Drehbuchautor, Schauspieler, Synchronsprecher und Produzent aufgefallen ist. Der aus Sevilla stammende Regisseur ist mit Juan Carlos Rubio befreundet, welcher das Theaterstück '100m2' schrieb, das auf einer Immobilienanzeige, in der es um Wohnrecht auf Lebenszeit ging, basiert. Das Theaterstück war weltweit erfolgreich und wurde u.a. auch in Deutschland als 'Hundert Quadratmeter' mit Beatrice und Judith Richter in den Hauptrollen aufgeführt. Der Film gewann drei ASECAN-Awards, in den Kategorien 'Bester Film', 'Beste Hauptdarstellerin' und 'Bestes Kostümdesign', gewann beim Festival von 'Malaga' den Publikumspreis, 'Beste Schauspielerin' sowie 'Bester Film' und wurde im gleichen Jahr dreimal für den 'Goya' nominiert. "Es gibt ein Sprichwort, dass man nicht weiß, was das Paradies ist, bis man es verliert", sagt Regisseur Bernabé auf die Frage nach dem zentralen Thema des Films, wie man mit unvorhergesehenen Situationen umgeht. Der Film erzählt die zutiefst berührende Geschichte einer ungewöhnlichen Freundschaft zweier Frauen, die auf den ersten Blick unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten, aber im Grunde sehr viel mehr gemeinsam haben, als ihnen und den Zuschauern zu Beginn klar ist. 'Vier Wände für Zwei' handelt von der Familie, die einen durchs Leben begleitet, von Menschen und Freunden, die bleiben, ohne dass es ihnen eine 'DNA' vorschreibt und von all dem, was uns im Leben passiert, während wir zu sehr damit beschäftigt sind, andere Pläne zu machen. Dieser Film bringt den Zuschauer auf witzige Weise darüber zum Nachdenken, was das Leben wirklich ausmacht und greift dabei zutiefst menschliche Ängste und Sehnsüchte auf. Mit unglaublichem Wortwitz zeigt er das Duell zwischen Lola und Sara, deren Begegnung einem dialektischen Frontalzusammenstoß gleicht: Die Stimme der Vernunft gegen die Stimme des Gefühls. Es geht um zweite Chancen im Leben, die wir verdienen und die oft an uns vorbeiziehen, ohne dass wir sie erkennen können. 'Vier Wände für Zwei' startet am 7. Juli 2022 bundesweit in den Kinos.

No longer believing in the future of her marriage, she sets out to find her own four walls behind her husband's back. Together with the inexperienced real estate agent Óscar (Carlos Areces), she visits a beautiful apartment that, apart from the hideous wallpaper, would be absolutely perfect, but has a crucial catch: Sara can only move in when the current owner Lola (Kiti Mánver) has died. Sara meets with Lola, who turns out to be an eloquent, chain-smoking, free-spirited survivor of a triple bypass. A force of nature whose joie de vivre and passion collides with Sara's rather conservative attitude. When Sara discovers that her husband is cheating on her, she seeks comfort and advice from Lola, who has experienced something similar. The two women, who are so different and yet united in their loneliness, form an unusual friendship. It's easier to recognize good friends when life gets harder. 'Four Walls for Two' (2020) is the feature film debut of Bernabé Rico, who has previously attracted attention as a screenwriter, actor, voice actor and producer. The director, who comes from Seville, is friends with Juan Carlos Rubio, who wrote the play '100m2', which is based on a real estate ad that was about the right to live for life. The play was successful worldwide and was also performed in Germany as 'Hundert Quadratmeter' with Beatrice and Judith Richter in the leading roles. The film won three ASECAN Awards, in the categories 'Best Film', 'Best Actress' and 'Best Costume Design', won the Audience Award, 'Best Actress' and 'Best Film' at the Festival of 'Malaga' and was nominated three times for the 'Goya' in the same year. "There's a saying that you don't know what paradise is until you lose it," says director Bernabé when asked about the film's central theme of how to deal with unforeseen situations. The film tells the deeply touching story of an unusual friendship between two women who at first glance could not be more different, but basically have much more in common than they and the audience realize at the beginning. 'Four Walls for Two' is about the family that accompanies you through life, about people and friends who stay without any 'DNA' and about everything that happens to us in life while we are too busy making other plans. This film makes the viewer think in a funny way about what life really means and takes up deeply human fears and longings. With incredible wordplay, he shows the duel between Lola and Sara, whose encounter resembles a dialectical head-on collision: the voice of reason against the voice of feeling. It's about second chances in life that we deserve and that often pass us by without us being able to recognize them. 'Four Walls for Two' will be released in cinemas nationwide on July 7, 2022.
