Astrid (Christiane Paul) ist Ende vierzig und hat ihr Leben fest im Griff. Sie hat sich in Paul (Ronald Zehrfeld) verliebt, und ihre erste gemeinsame Wochenendreise führt sie nach Budapest, auf ein paar romantische Tage zu Zweit. Doch in der ungarischen Hauptstadt kommt alles anders als geplant: Sie treffen auf Julius (Sebastian Hülk), Astrids erste große Jugendliebe, die 1986 in der DDR auf einer Künstlerparty begann. Und diese Liebe war damals nie einfach, aber immer aufregend. Es sind Gefühle, die durch den Lauf der Geschichte nicht richtig beendet werden konnten. Astrid betrachtet gemeinsam mit Paul ihre Vergangenheit, und plötzlich könnte alles sein, wie es nie gewesen war...
Faszinierend und fesselnd zugleich erzählt 'Was gewesen wäre' (2019) die Geschichte eines frisch verliebten Paares, das sich für ein Wochenende in Budapest durch einen Zufall mit einer unausgesprochenen Vergangenheit konfrontiert sieht. Die Erinnerung beflügelt die Vorstellung, dass ein kurzer Moment im Leben - eine einzige Entscheidung - alles hätte verändern können. Gregor Sander (aus 'Tagebuch eines Jahres' oder 'Winterfisch') hat das Drehbuch zu seinem Roman 'Was gewesen wäre' selbst verfasst. Die Regie übernahm erstmalig Florian Koerner von Gustorf, der als Produzent des Regisseurs Christian Petzold (siehe u.a. 'Transit', 'Phoenix', 'Barbara' und 'Yella') bekannt wurde und Gründungsmitglied der Berliner Band 'Mutter' ist. Für die Bildgestaltung konnte der renommierte Kameramann Reinhold Vorschneider ('Helle Nächte' Berlinale Wettbewerb 2017, 'Wild' Deutscher Filmpreis 'Beste Kamera' 2017) gewonnen werden. Die Hauptrollen sind mit Emmy-Preisträgerin Christiane Paul ('Die Welt der Wunderlichs', 'Eltern') als Astrid und Ronald Zehrfeld ('Das Ende der Wahrheit', 'Der Staat gegen Firtz Bauer', 'Phoenix') als Paul besetzt. Ihre jüngeren Pendants werden gespielt von Mercedes Müller ('Tschick', 'Tannbach') und Leonard Kunz ('Das schönste Paar', 'Babylon Berlin'). 'Was gewesen wäre' ist eine Produktion der 'Flare Film GmbH' in Koproduktion mit dem 'WDR' (Redaktion: Dr. Barbara Buhl, Andrea Hanke) und 'Arte' (Redaktion: Andreas Schreitmüller) in Zusammenarbeit mit 'Proton Cinema', gefördert von der Beauftragten für Kultur und Medien BKM, dem Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg und dem DFFF. Der "wunderschöne Liebesroman" (so die '3sat Kulturzeit') von Gregor Sander ist im Wallstein-Verlag erschienen. 'Was gewesen wäre' feierte auf dem 'Filmfest München' 2019 seine Weltpremiere.

Fascinating and captivating at the same time, 'What Would Have Been' (2019) tells the story of a newly in love couple who, by chance, find themselves confronted with an unspoken past for a weekend in Budapest. The memory inspires the idea that a brief moment in life - a single decision - could have changed everything. Gregor Sander (from 'Diary of a Year' or 'Winter Fish') wrote the screenplay for his novel 'What Would Have Been' himself. The director was Florian Koerner von Gustorf for the first time, who became known as the producer of director Christian Petzold (see 'Transit', 'Phoenix', 'Barbara' and 'Yella', among others) and is a founding member of the Berlin band 'Mutter'. The renowned cinematographer Reinhold Vorschneider ('Bright Nights' Berlinale Competition 2017, 'Wild' German Film Award 'Best Cinematography' 2017) was won over for the cinematography. The leading roles are played by Emmy Award winner Christiane Paul ('The World of the Wunderlichs', 'Parents') as Astrid and Ronald Zehrfeld ('The End of Truth', 'The State against Firtz Bauer', 'Phoenix') as Paul. Their younger counterparts are played by Mercedes Müller ('Tschick', 'Tannbach') and Leonard Kunz ('The Most Beautiful Couple', 'Babylon Berlin'). 'What would have been' is a production of 'Flare Film GmbH' in co-production with 'WDR' (editors: Dr. Barbara Buhl, Andrea Hanke) and 'Arte' (editor: Andreas Schreitmüller) in cooperation with 'Proton Cinema', funded by the Commissioner for Culture and Media BKM, the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the DFFF.
