Seit der Antike trug das Pferd den Menschen durch viele Schlachten - mit ihm wurden Länder und ganze Kontinente erobert. Die zweiteilige TV-Dokumentation über die 'Geschichte des Pferdes' entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit dem NDR und bietet in 2 x 45 Minuten faszinierende Einblicke in Historie, Entwicklung, Zucht und Ausbildung berühmter Pferderassen der Welt.
Teil 1 'Vom Urpferd zum Mustang' zeichnet den Weg des Pferdes vom fuchsgroßen Urahn Eohippus bis zur Jagdbeute steinzeitlicher Jäger, von den Wagenrennen der Antike und Inavasionen arabischer Reiterheere bis zur Ritterzeit, von der Blüte der Pferdezucht in Andalusien bis zur Eroberung des Wilden Westens durch verwilderte Mustangs nach.
Teil 2 'Vom Streitross zum Rennpferd' beschäftigt sich mit der Rolle des Pferdes in Kunst, Krieg und Sport, besucht ehemalige Militärschulen des Mittelalters, aus denen Hochburgen der Pferdedressur entstanden, wie Saumur in Frankreich oder Lipica in Slovenien, beleuchtet die Entstehung berühmter Pferderassen, wie den Lipizzanern, die Entwicklung des Pferdes im Zirkus - und im Krieg. Abgerundet wird der Streifzug durch die 'Geschichte des Pferdes' mit einem Besuch in Newmarket, dem englischen Mekka der Rennpferdezucht, und mit Einblicken in die heutige Nutzung des Kaltblutpferdes, z. B. beim Holzrücken in Wald und Forst.

Probably no other living creature on this earth is as closely linked to man and his history as the horse. No other living being has been and is so loved and so maltreated. Since ancient times, the horse has carried man through many battles - with it countries and entire continents were conquered. The two-part TV documentary about the 'History of the Horse' was created in cooperation with NDR and offers fascinating insights into the history, development, breeding and training of famous horse breeds in the world in 2 x 45 minutes.
Part 1 'From the primeval horse to the mustang' traces the path of the horse from the fox-sized ancestor Eohippus to the hunting prey of Stone Age hunters, from the chariot races of antiquity and invasions of Arab cavalry armies to the age of knights, from the heyday of horse breeding in Andalusia to the conquest of the Wild West by feral mustangs.
Part 2 'From Horse to Racehorse' deals with the role of the horse in art, war and sport, visits former military schools of the Middle Ages, from which strongholds of horse dressage emerged, such as Saumur in France or Lipica in Slovenia, sheds light on the emergence of famous horse breeds, such as the Lipizzaners, the development of the horse in the circus - and in war. The foray into the 'history of the horse' is rounded off with a visit to Newmarket, the English Mecca of racehorse breeding, and with insights into the current use of the cold-blooded horse, e.g. when moving wood in woods and forests.
