Jack und Meg go Hollywood? Nicht ganz, aber wenn eine Ausnahmeband wie 'The White Stripes' ihren ersten Konzertfilm veröffentlicht, ist schon zu erwarten, dass sie nicht einfach irgendein Konzert mit einer Handvoll Digicams aufzeichnen lassen. Das Duo, das vor zwei Jahren verfügte, dass sämtliche Medien mit der guten alten analogen Schallplatte zu bemustern seien, hat die Super-8-Technik wieder entdeckt. Ganze Heerscharen von Kameraleuten waren damit beschäftigt, die einzigartige Atmosphäre im beeindruckenden 'Empress Ballroom' zu Blackpool mit feinsten Vintage-Equipment einzufangen. Die analoge, fast antike Technik macht diesen Film zu einer kleinen Zeitmaschine. Raum und Zeit scheinen kaum definierbar, die Intimität des Auftrittes nahezu unfassbar. Leidenschaftlich bearbeitet Jack White seine Gitarre, entrückt gibt sich Meg White ihrem Schlagzeug hin, beredet sind die Blicke zwischen den beiden Musikern. Hier ist ein kleiner Meilenstein in Sachen Konzertfilmen gelungen.

Jack and Meg go Hollywood? Not quite, but when an exceptional band like 'The White Stripes' releases their first concert film, it's to be expected that they won't just have any concert recorded with a handful of digicams. The duo, who decreed two years ago that all media were to be sampled with the good old analogue record, have rediscovered Super 8 technology. Whole armies of cameramen were busy capturing the unique atmosphere in the impressive 'Empress Ballroom' in Blackpool with the finest vintage equipment. The analogue, almost ancient technology makes this film a small time machine. Space and time seem hardly definable, the intimacy of the performance almost incomprehensible. Jack White works passionately on his guitar, Meg White devotes herself to her drums enraptured, the glances between the two musicians are eloquent. A small milestone in concert films has been achieved here.
