Zu Anfang des Winters kommt die 43-jährige Schauspielerin Tania Kalsmaier (Birge Schade) in ein rückständiges Dorf im Norden Deutschlands. Gleich an ihrem ersten Tag trifft sie am Meer den vielleicht 15-jährigen Thore (Daniel Michel), der anders ist als die übrigen Jungen im Dorf. Er erzählt merkwürdige Geschichten. Doch was eigentlich eine wirkliche Seelenverwandschaft ist, wird unter dem Einfluss der Umstände unweigerlich zu einem Skandal. Der Junge verfällt ihr, und Tania tut nichts, um das zu verhindern. Langsam erst wird klar, dass Tania nicht anders handeln kann, als sie es tut. Immer deutlicher wird sichtbar, dass die Aufgabe, die sie in dem Jungen sieht, auch für sie die letzte Chance ist, ihrem in den letzten Jahren beängstigend gleichförmig gewordenen Leben die entscheidende Wende zu geben - und damit zugleich die Schatten, die sie über Jahrzehnte hin mit zweifelhaften Mitteln und ohne Rücksicht auf sich selbst oder andere nieder gehalten hat, für immer zu verjagen.
