Wir schreiben das Jahr 1996. Mike Lazaridis (Jay Baruchel) und sein bester Freund und Geschäftspartner Douglas Fregin (Matt Johnson) entwickeln das erste Smartphone der Welt. Die beiden sind technisch brilliant, und geschäftlich unerfahren. Sie haben große Mühe ihr Unternehmen Research in Motion über Wasser zu halten. Alles ändert sich, als sie den smarten Unternehmer Jim Balsillie (Glenn Howerton) kennenlernen, der das nötige Kleingeld und die Kompetenz mitbringt für den Launch einer so weltverändernden Erfindung. Scheinbar über Nacht revolutionieren die drei Männer die Art und Weise, wie Menschen arbeiten, kommunizieren und sich vernetzten. In 'BlackBerry - Klick einer Generation' (2023) mit Jay Baruchel als Mike Lazaridis, Glenn Howerton als Jim Balsillie und Cary Elwes als Yankowski erzählt Regisseur und Doug-Darsteller Matt Johnson die Geschichte vom kometenhaften Aufstieg und katastrophalen Niedergang des ersten Smartphones der Welt. Regie führte Johnson, der zusammen mit Produzent Matthew Miller auch das Drehbuch verfasste und auch vor der Kamera als Douglas Fregin zu sehen ist. Produziert wurde das unterhaltsame Drama von Niv Fichman, Matthew Miller, Fraser Ash und Kevin Krikst. Die Deutschland-Premiere fand am 17. Februar 2023 im Rahmen des Berlinale-Filmfestivals statt.

The film was directed by Johnson, who also wrote the screenplay together with producer Matthew Miller and can also be seen in front of the camera as Douglas Fregin. The entertaining drama was produced by Niv Fichman, Matthew Miller, Fraser Ash and Kevin Krikst. The German premiere took place on February 17, 2023 as part of the Berlinale Film Festival.
