Nepals Hauptstadt zieht in dieser Zeit magisch Rucksacktouristen aus ganz Europa an, die auf der Suche nach spiritueller Erfahrung oder zumindest nach dem Rausch von Drogen und freier Liebe sind. Aber für Hannah und Ole wird diese Reise wesentlich mehr als ein Hippie-Abenteuer. Sie begegnen dort jenem Mann, der ihr Leben für immer verändern sollte, dem 16. Karmapa, geistiges Oberhaupt der Karma-Kagyü-Linie des tibetischen Buddhismus, auch 'König der Yogis' genannt. Die Nydahls werden die ersten westlichen Schüler des Karmapa und machen fortan die weltweite Vermittlung der buddhistischen Lehren zu ihrem gemeinsamen Lebensprojekt. In den nächsten 35 Jahren sind sie unermüdlich auf den Straßen zwischen den Kontinenten unterwegs und eröffnen weltweit hunderte buddhistische Zentren, bis Hannah 2007 unerwartet an Krebs stirbt...

It all begins with a great love in the 60s: Hannah and Ole Nydahl feel closely connected in their longing for spiritual freedom, in the search for something better. In 1968, newly married, they followed the hippie trail from Copenhagen to Kathmandu. Nepal's capital magically attracts backpackers from all over Europe during this time, who are looking for spiritual experience or at least the rush of drugs and free love. But for Hannah and Ole, this trip will be much more than a hippie adventure. There they meet the man who was to change their lives forever, the 16th Karmapa, spiritual leader of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, also called the 'King of the Yogis'. The Nydahls become the first Western disciples of the Karmapa and from then on make the worldwide teaching of Buddhist teachings their common life project. Over the next 35 years, they tirelessly traveled the roads between the continents and opened hundreds of Buddhist centers around the world until Hannah died unexpectedly of cancer in 2007...
