Brasilien 1977. Während der ausgelassenen Karnevalswoche kehrt Marcelo Alves (Wagner Moura), ein Mann Mitte vierzig, von São Paulo in die Küstenstadt 'Recife' zurück. 'The Secret Agent' (2025) feierte seine Weltpremiere im Wettbewerb der 78. Internationalen Filmfestspiele von Cannes und wurde dort mit vier bedeutenden internationalen Preisen ausgezeichnet: zwei 'Goldenen Palmen' für jeweils den besten Hauptdarsteller und für die beste Regie sowie dem FIPRESCI-Preis der Filmkritik und dem Preis der unabhängigen Kinos 'CICAE'. Hauptdarsteller Wagner Moura (aus 'Narcos') erhielt in Cannes für seine eindringliche Darstellung als Marcelo den Preis für den besten Darsteller. An seiner Seite brillieren Maria Fernanda Cândido ('Il Traditore - Als Kronzeuge gegen die Cosa Nostra), Gabriel Leone (aus der Serie 'Senna'), Hermila Guedes ('O céu de suely') sowie Udo Kier ('Melancholia'). 'O Agente Secreto', so der portugiesische Originaltitel, ist eine internationale Koproduktion von 'Cinemascópio' Brasilien, 'mk2 Productions' Frankreich, 'One Two Films' Deutschland) und 'Lemming Film' Niederlande. Gefördert u.a. vom Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg und der 'FFA'. Den deutschen Verleih übernahm 'Port au Prince Pictures' und bringt 'The Secret Agent' von Regisseur Kleber Mendonça Filho am 6. November 2025 deutschlandweit in die Kinos.

'The Secret Agent' (2025) celebrated its world premiere in competition at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival, where it was awarded four major international awards: two 'Golden Palms' for Best Actor and Best Director, as well as the FIPRESCI Film Critics' Prize and the Independent Cinemas Award 'CICAE'. Lead actor Wagner Moura (from 'Narcos') received the award for best actor in Cannes for his haunting performance as Marcelo. At his side, Maria Fernanda Cândido ('Il Traditore - As a key witness against the Cosa Nostra'), Gabriel Leone (from the series 'Senna'), Hermila Guedes ('O céu de suely') and Udo Kier ('Melancholia') shine. 'O Agente Secreto', the Portuguese original title, is an international co-production of 'Cinemascópio' Brazil, 'mk2 Productions' France, 'One Two Films' (Germany) and 'Lemming Film' Netherlands. Funded by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the 'FFA', among others. 'Port au Prince Pictures' took over the German distribution and will release 'The Secret Agent' by director Kleber Mendonça Filho in cinemas throughout Germany on 6 November 2025.
