Im Mittelpunkt von 'Paulas Sommer' steht die 15-jährige Paula (Maria Vogt), deren Leben sich nach dem Tod des Vaters komplett ändert. Sie erfährt, dass ihre Mutter Eva sie mit Beginn der Sommerferien zu sich in ihre Familie holen will. Eva (Saskia Fischer), die die alte Familie verließ, als Paula drei war, lebt mit ihrem neuen Mann, dem Pferdezüchter Max Minkhoff (Johannes Steck) und seinen Kindern Fee (Marie Seiser) und Finn (Oliver Moser) auf einem großen, malerischen Gestüt. Paula interessiert sich absolut nicht für Pferde und fühlt sich zunächst ausgegrenzt und wie ein Fremdkörper in der pferdebegeisterten Familie. Sie findet, dass sich das Leben auf dem Gestüt nicht verträgt mit der Welt, in der sie und ihr Vater, damals Violinist in einem Symphonieorchester, zu Hause waren: in der Musik das wichtigste war und das Allerwichtigste das Ballett, denn Paula träumt von einer Karriere als Primaballerina. Außerdem macht ihr Fee das Leben schwer. Sie reagiert immer wieder eifersüchtig auf sie, weil sie die Beziehung zu ihrer Mutter, die nun plötzlich Paulas leibliche Mutter ist, bedroht sieht. Finn dagegen ist ihr gegenüber vollkommen entspannt, ebenso wie Juri, sein bester Freund und Buddy kann sie als rasender Reporter sogar zum Lachen bringen. Und Paula freundet sich mit der schrägen Zora (Delia-Deborah Wagner) an, die im nahe gelegenen Gnadenhof für Tiere Sozialstunden ableisten muss, weil sie geklaut hat. Ihre anfängliche Einsamkeit und ihren Kummer vertraut Paula 'Morning Star' an, ein als unberechenbar geltender Hengst, auf dem einst die ganze Hoffnung des Zuchtbetriebs Minkhoff lag und der sich mehr und mehr als fatale Fehlinvestition herausstellt. Sie erkennt eine Seelenverwandtschaft und ganz gegen ihren Willen und zur Verblüffung der Familie gelingt es ihr, eine Beziehung zu dem Pferd aufzubauen und auch eine Begeisterung fürs Reiten zu entwickeln. Ihren Traum vom Tanzen gibt Paula dennoch nicht auf. Mit Paulas Ankunft auf dem Gestüt beginnt eine aufregende Zeit, in der jeder in dieser turbulenten Patchwork-Familie seinen Platz wiederfinden muss. Und ganz besonders Paula muss ihren Weg gehen und sich behaupten, zudem verliebt sie sich zum ersten Mal in einen Jungen.

At the center of 'Paula's Summer' is 15-year-old Paula (Maria Vogt), whose life changes completely after the death of her father. She learns that her mother Eva wants to bring her to her family at the beginning of the summer holidays. Eva (Saskia Fischer), who left the old family when Paula was three, lives with her new husband, horse breeder Max Minkhoff (Johannes Steck) and his children Fee (Marie Seiser) and Finn (Oliver Moser) on a large, picturesque stud farm. Paula is absolutely not interested in horses and initially feels excluded and like a foreign body in the horse-loving family. She thinks that life at the stud farm is not compatible with the world in which she and her father, then a violinist in a symphony orchestra, were at home: in which music was the most important thing and the most important thing was ballet, because Paula dreams of a career as a prima ballerina. In addition, Fee makes life difficult for her. She reacts jealously to her again and again because she sees the relationship with her mother, who is now suddenly Paula's biological mother, threatened. Finn, on the other hand, is completely relaxed towards her, as is Juri, his best friend and buddy can even make her laugh as a raging reporter. And Paula befriends the weird Zora (Delia-Deborah Wagner), who has to do community service at the nearby sanctuary for animals because she stole. Paula confides her initial loneliness and grief to 'Morning Star', a stallion who is considered unpredictable, on whom once lay all the hope of the Minkhoff breeding farm and who turns out to be more and more a fatal bad investment. She recognizes a kindred spirit and, quite against her will and to the amazement of the family, she manages to build a relationship with the horse and also develop an enthusiasm for riding. Nevertheless, Paula does not give up her dream of dancing. Paula's arrival at the stud marks the beginning of an exciting time in which everyone has to find their place again in this turbulent patchwork family. And Paula in particular has to go her own way and assert herself, and she also falls in love with a boy for the first time.
