Als mit den Erinnerungen an ihre große Liebe am College auch längst erloschen geglaubte Gefühle zurückkommen, liegt ein Hauch von Magie in der Luft. "Was wäre gewesen, wenn?". Ausgerechnet zu einem Zeitpunkt, als Willa und Bill vor schwierigen persönlichen Entscheidungen stehen, kommt diese Variante ins Spiel. Als am Flughafen nichts mehr geht und man im Wartebereich nichts tun kann, außer reden, wird aus harmlosem Geplänkel ein Abend voller Anschuldigungen, Geständnissen und der Erkenntnis, dass die Leidenschaft, die sie einst zusammenbrachte, nie wirklich erloschen ist. Die zuvor undurchdringlichen Mauern zwischen Bill und Willa fangen an zu bröckeln, und es scheint fast so, als ob nicht nur die Sterne, sondern sogar die Lautsprecheranlage sie wieder zusammenbringen will...
Meg Ryan ('Harry und Sally', 'Schlaflos in Seattle') spielt nicht nur eine der beiden Hauptrollen, sie führte auch Regie bei 'What Happens Later' (2023), einer klassischen romantischen Komödie, passend für das 21. Jahrhundert und mit einer Prise Magie. Das Drehbuch von Steven Dietz, Kirk Lynn ('Rules for Werewolves') und Ryan basiert auf dem Theaterstück 'Shooting Star' von Dietz. In der männlichen Hauptrolle ist David Duchovny ('Akte X - Die unheimlichen Fälle des FBI', 'Californication') neben Ryan zu sehen.

At a time when Willa and Bill are facing difficult personal decisions, this variant comes into play. When nothing works at the airport anymore and there is nothing you can do in the waiting area except talk, harmless banter turns into an evening full of accusations, confessions and the realization that the passion that once brought them together has never really been extinguished. The previously impenetrable walls between Bill and Willa begin to crumble, and it almost seems as if not only the stars, but even the sound system wants to bring them back together...
Meg Ryan ('Harry and Sally', 'Sleepless in Seattle') not only plays one of the two main roles, she also directed 'What Happens Later' (2023), a classic romantic comedy fit for the 21st century and with a pinch of magic. The screenplay by Steven Dietz, Kirk Lynn ('Rules for Werewolves') and Ryan is based on the play 'Shooting Star' by Dietz. The male lead stars David Duchovny ('The X-Files', 'Californication') alongside Ryan.
