Im Leben des Thomanerchores stehen große Veränderungen an. Das Alumnat, der Lebens- und Arbeitsmittelpunkt des Chores, wird umgebaut und seine Bewohner müssen währenddessen in ein Provisorium umziehen. Zugleich wird eine neue Generation junger Thomaner aufgenommen und der Chor muss sich wie in jedem Jahr neu finden und formieren. Der Film begleitet die Thomaner und den Thomaskantor während dieser Umbruchsphase und versucht das Geheimnis der Faszination zu ergründen, die von diesem berühmten Knabenchor ausgeht. Er nimmt die Chronologie des Thomaner-Jahres auf, begleitet seine Protagonisten zu einer großen Konzertreise durch Südamerika, wo sie frenetisch gefeiert werden, lässt das Publikum teilhaben am oft anstrengenden Proben- und Schulalltag der Jungen und ihrer knapp bemessenen Freizeit. Der Zuschauer taucht ein in eine einzigartige Welt zwischen Motette, Internat und Fußballplatz, in ein Leben, das geprägt ist von Erfolg und Leistungsdruck, Zweifel und Stolz, Heimweh und echter Freundschaft.
In the life of the St. Thomas Choir, great changes are imminent. The alumnat, the center of life and work of the choir, is being rebuilt and its residents have to move into a temporary building in the meantime. At the same time, a new generation of young St. Thomas students is being accepted and the choir has to find itself and form anew, as it does every year. The film accompanies the St. Thomas students and the Thomaskantor during this period of upheaval and tries to fathom the secret of the fascination that emanates from this famous boys' choir. He takes up the chronology of the St. Thomas Year, accompanies his protagonists on a major concert tour through South America, where they are frenetically celebrated, lets the audience participate in the often strenuous rehearsal and school life of the boys and their scarce free time. The viewer is immersed in a unique world between motet, boarding school and football pitch, in a life that is characterised by success and pressure to perform, doubt and pride, homesickness and genuine friendship.
