Die Schulferien haben begonnen, fröhlich strömen die Kinder in ihren blauen Uniformen ins Freie. Nur ein kleiner Junge scheint betrübt. Ein Klassenkamerad hat ihm das Schulbuch geklaut, jetzt kann er seine Ferienaufgaben nicht erledigen. In diesem Film tritt die Kamera stets einen Schritt zurück und gibt das Bild frei für Leben und Alltag einer türkischen Familie in einer anatolischen Kleinstadt. Die langen und ruhigen Einstellungen lassen Platz für ihre kleinen und großen Probleme. Als der Vater überraschend stirbt, lässt Seyfi Teomans Film den Hinterbliebenen die Zeit und den Raum, die nun einmal nötig sind, um den Tod an sich heranzulassen. Vorsichtig verfolgt er die unterschiedlichen Bewältigungsstrategien, zeigt, wie die Familie langsam ihren Weg in den Alltag zurückfindet. Am Ende werden die Kinder wieder in die Schule eilen...
Ein lichter Sommerfilm über ein schweres Thema - das dramatische Potenzial undramatischer Momente. Der Regisseur Seyfi Teoman über seinen Film: "'Tatil Kitabi' ist ein Film über die Geschwindigkeit und den Rhythmus des Lebens in einer Kleinstadt in der Provinz. Der Film wurde in Silifke gedreht, einer Stadt ganz in der Nähe der Mittelmeerküste. Trotz landschaftlicher Schönheit und der wunderbaren geografischen Lage kommen nur wenige Touristen in diesen Ort, der so gar nicht dem Klischee der mediterranen Stadt mit ihren freundlichen, fröhlichen Menschen entspricht. Während ich das Drehbuch schrieb, musste ich ständig daran denken, wie sehr uns die Orte beeinflussen, an denen wir leben. Entweder akzeptieren wir diesen Umstand oder wir leugnen ihn - so oder so sind wir davon geprägt. Mich interessiert das dramatische Potenzial der undramatischen Momente im Leben. Ich versuche, dramatische Ereignisse ganz ohne dramatisierende Elemente darzustellen. Atmosphäre und Stil des Films werden vom Zusammenspiel aus Totalen und Nahaufnahmen, Laiendarstellern und zurückgenommenem Spiel und natürlichem Licht bestimmt. Meiner Meinung nach sollte ein Film so unbestimmt sein wie das Leben."

When the father dies unexpectedly, Seyfi Teoman's film gives the bereaved the time and space they need to let death get to them. He carefully follows the different coping strategies, shows how the family slowly finds its way back into everyday life. In the end, the children will rush back to school...
A light summer film about a difficult topic - the dramatic potential of undramatic moments. Director Seyfi Teoman about his film: "'Tatil Kitabi' is a film about the speed and rhythm of life in a small town in the provinces. The film was shot in Silifke, a town very close to the Mediterranean coast. Despite the scenic beauty and the wonderful geographical location, only a few tourists come to this place, which does not at all correspond to the cliché of the Mediterranean city with its friendly, cheerful people. While I was writing the script, I had to constantly think about how much the places we live in influence us. Either we accept this circumstance or we deny it - one way or another, we are shaped by it. I'm interested in the dramatic potential of the undramatic moments in life. I try to depict dramatic events without any dramatizing elements. The atmosphere and style of the film are determined by the interplay of long shots and close-ups, amateur actors and restrained acting and natural light. In my opinion, a film should be as vague as life."
