Die Stuttgarter Produktion wurde von Kritikern und Presse als Sensation gefeiert. "Vier Opern - vier Regisseure" nannte sich die künstlerische Idee hinter dem Zyklus. Jeder Regisseur konnte sich voll auf den Inhalt seiner Produktion konzentrieren, ohne Bezug auf die bereits gelaufenen Inszenierungen nehmen zu müssen. Diese ermöglichte einen viel intensiveren Blick auf die dominierenden Akteure und schuf eine einzigartige Intensität. 2002 wurde die Stuttgarter Staatsoper von Kritikern zum vierten Mal in fünf Jahren zum Opernhaus des Jahres gewählt. Die DVD-Produktion zollt der künstlerischen und musikalischen Leistung des Hauses und den wundervollen Sängern Tribut.

The Stuttgart production was celebrated as a sensation by critics and the press. "Four operas - four directors" was the name of the artistic idea behind the cycle. Each director was able to concentrate fully on the content of his production without having to refer to the productions that had already been shown. This allowed a much more intensive view of the dominant players and created a unique intensity. In 2002, the Stuttgart State Opera was voted Opera House of the Year by critics for the fourth time in five years. The DVD production pays tribute to the artistic and musical achievement of the house and the wonderful singers.
