Sylvie Thenot (Clotilde Courau) lebt allein mit ihrer Tochter Mélanie (Naomi Amarger). Sie verbringen viel Zeit miteinander und Sylvie ist stolz auf das enge Verhältnis, das sie zu ihrer Tochter hat, dass sie reden können über Schule, Jungs, Klamotten. Doch irgendwann begegnet Mélanie im Internet einem Jungen, der ihr regelmäßig zu schreiben beginnt, ihr Komplimente macht und sie schließlich fragt, wie sie es hält mit der Religion. Eines Tages ist Mélanie verschwunden und Sylvie auf halbem Weg nach Syrien, um sie zu suchen. Catherine Bouzaria (Sandrine Bonnaire) und Samir (Zinedine Soualem) sind die stolzen Eltern der 17-jährigen Sonia (Noémie Merlant), sie sind eine glückliche Familie, die gemeinsam den Alltag meistert. Gerade zurück aus den Sommerferien, wird ihr Haus eines Nachts von der Polizei gestürmt und Sonia unter Arrest gestellt. Um ihrer Familie einen Platz im Paradies zu sichern, hat sich Sonia dem 'Dschihad' angeschlossen, bereit für einen Anschlag in ihrem Heimatland. Catherine und Sylvie sind tief erschüttert davon, wie fremd ihre Töchter ihnen so ganz im Stillen geworden sind. Doch sie sind bereit, alles zu tun, um sie wieder zurückzubekommen...

Sylvie Thenot (Clotilde Courau) lives alone with her daughter Mélanie (Naomi Amarger). They spend a lot of time together and Sylvie is proud of the close relationship she has with her daughter, that they can talk about school, boys, clothes. But at some point, Mélanie meets a boy on the Internet who begins to write to her regularly, compliments her and finally asks her how she feels about religion. One day, Mélanie has disappeared and Sylvie is halfway to Syria to look for her. Catherine Bouzaria (Sandrine Bonnaire) and Samir (Zinedine Soualem) are the proud parents of 17-year-old Sonia (Noémie Merlant), they are a happy family who master everyday life together. Just back from the summer holidays, her house is stormed by the police one night and Sonia is put under arrest. To secure her family's place in paradise, Sonia has joined the 'jihad', ready for an attack in her home country. Catherine and Sylvie are deeply shocked by how strange their daughters have become to them so quietly. But they are willing to do anything to get them back...
