Federico Fellinis Regiedebüt 'Der weiße Scheich' (1952) war der erste Spielfilm, der unter der alleinigen Regie von Federico Fellini entstand. Fellinis Ehefrau Giulietta Masina mimte hier zum ersten Mal die Cabiria, die fünf Jahre später die Hauptfigur im Oscar-prämierten 'Die Nächte der Cabiria' wurde. 'Der weiße Scheich' entstand nach einer Idee von Michelangelo Antonioni, die von Fellini gemeinsam mit Tullio Pinelli und Ennio Flaiano zum Drehbuch für den Film ausgearbeitet wurde. Beide Autoren waren im Anschluss noch an zahlreichen weiteren Drehbüchern für Fellinis Filme beteiligt, u.a. 'Die Nächte der Cabiria', 'La Strada', 'La Dolce Vita' und 'Achteinhalb'. Außerdem bildete Fellinis Debüt den Auftakt einer jahrzehntelang andauernden Zusammenarbeit mit dem Komponisten Nino Rota, der bis zu seinem Lebensende 1979 an sämtlichen Filmen Fellinis mitwirkte.

Federico Fellini's directorial debut 'The White Sheik' (1952) was the first feature film to be directed solely by Federico Fellini. Fellini's wife Giulietta Masina mimicked Cabiria for the first time here, who five years later became the main character in the Oscar-winning 'The Nights of Cabiria'. 'The White Sheikh' was based on an idea by Michelangelo Antonioni, which was developed by Fellini together with Tullio Pinelli and Ennio Flaiano into the screenplay for the film. Both authors were subsequently involved in numerous other scripts for Fellini's films, including 'The Nights of Cabiria', 'La Strada', 'La Dolce Vita' and 'Eight and a Half'. In addition, Fellini's debut marked the beginning of a decades-long collaboration with the composer Nino Rota, who worked on all of Fellini's films until the end of his life in 1979.
