Im November 1992 zerstörte der rassistische Brandanschlag von 'Mölln' die Leben von Ibrahim Arslan und seiner Familie. Der damals siebenjährige Ibrahim überlebte, verlor aber seine Schwester, seine Cousine und seine Großmutter. Die Stadt Mölln erhielt Hunderte Briefe mit Solidaritätsbekundungen, von denen aber fast drei Jahrzehnte niemand Notiz nahm. Der Film folgt Ibrahim bei der Entdeckung dieser Briefe und bei der Begegnung mit drei ihrer Verfasser. Zugleich zeichnet er ein komplexes Porträt des anhaltenden Traumas, das İbrahim und seine Geschwister bis heute beeinträchtigt. Ibrahim hat einen Umgang mit den Geschehnissen gefunden, indem er aktiv gegen Rassismus kämpft und sich für eine Erinnerungskultur einsetzt, die die Opfer ins Zentrum stellt. Sein Bruder Namik Arslan hingegen befindet sich noch am Anfang seines Wegs der Bewältigung...
Der Kino-Dokumentarfilm 'Die Möllner Briefe' (2025) beleuchtet nicht nur die Erfahrungen der Überlebenden, er deckt auch die große Solidarität auf, die es damals gab - eine Solidarität, von der die Opfer bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt nichts wussten. Er schlägt eine Brücke zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart und nimmt eine Perspektive des Erinnerns ein, die den Stimmen der Betroffenen den Raum und die Anerkennung gibt, die sie verdienen. Die Dokumentation von Regisseurin Martina Priessner feierte ihre Weltpremiere bei den 75. Internationalen Filmfestspielen Berlin in der 'Sektion Panorama', der Gewinner des Amnesty-Filmpreises, des Panorama-Publikumspreises, der Eröffnungsfilm des Internationalen Frauenfilmfests Dortmund-Köln und der Gewinner des Roman-Brodmann-Preises. Der bundesweite Kinostart in Deutschland ist am 25. September 2025 erreicht.

In November 1992, the racist arson attack in 'Mölln' destroyed the lives of Ibrahim Arslan and his family. Ibrahim, who was seven years old at the time, survived, but lost his sister, his cousin and his grandmother. The city of Mölln received hundreds of letters with expressions of solidarity, but no one took notice of them for almost three decades. The film follows Ibrahim as he discovers these letters and meets three of their authors. At the same time, he draws a complex portrait of the ongoing trauma that affects İbrahim and his siblings to this day. Ibrahim has found a way to deal with the events by actively fighting against racism and advocating for a culture of remembrance that puts the victims at the center. The cinema documentary 'The Möllner Letters' (2025) not only sheds light on the experiences of the survivors, it also reveals the great solidarity that existed at the time - a solidarity that the victims knew nothing about until then. It builds a bridge between past and present and takes a perspective of remembrance that gives the voices of those affected the space and recognition they deserve. The documentary by director Martina Priessner celebrated its world premiere at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival in the 'Panorama Section', the winner of the Amnesty Film Award, the Panorama Audience Award, the opening film of the Dortmund-Cologne International Women's Film Festival and the winner of the Roman Brodmann Prize. The nationwide theatrical release in Germany is reached on September 25, 2025.
