Dort stellen sich Aktivist:innen der Rodung des Waldes durch den Konzern 'RWE' entgegen. Rasch findet er durch seine offene, herzliche Art Anschluss in ihren Baumhäusern. Er begleitet die Protestaktion als Journalist mit seiner 360°-Kamera und filmt die Räumungsversuche der Polizei live aus den Wipfeln. Bis es zur Tragödie kommt: Er stürzt in die Tiefe und verstirbt noch vor Ort. Seine Freund:innen haben aus Steffens hinterlassenen Aufnahmen mit Fabiana Fragale, Kilian Kuhlendahl und Jens Mühlhoff den Dokumentarfilm 'Vergiss Meyn Nicht' (2023) geschaffen, der eine eindrucksvolle Studie von Aktivismus ist, bei dem der Einsatz des eigenen Körpers als letztes Mittel erscheint.

How far can and may activism go? In 2018, climate activists put their heart and soul into the Hambach Forest, which quickly became a symbol of resistance against politics and business. When the police cleared the forest, a young film student had a fatal accident: Steffen Meyn. With journalistic intent, he had accompanied the protest action with a 360-degree camera, in solidarity, but by no means uncritically. This extraordinary documentary is made up of the footage he left behind. It provides never-before-seen images and direct insights into a protest movement that is struggling to find its stance and suitable means. How far can and may activism go? 'Don't forget Meyn' asks exactly this question, which is more burning than ever in the face of blocked roads and raids...
Why do people endanger their lives for political purposes? And where does utopia meet painful reality? Driven by a fascination for activism and the belief in a better community, the young film student Steffen Meyn goes to the Hambach Forest in 2018. There, activists oppose the clearing of the forest by the 'RWE' group. He quickly makes friends in their tree houses through his open, cordial manner. He accompanies the protest action as a journalist with his 360° camera and films the eviction attempts of the police live from the treetops. Until tragedy strikes: he falls into the depths and dies on the spot. His friends have created the documentary 'Vergiss Meyn Nicht' (2023) from Steffen's recordings with Fabiana Fragale, Kilian Kuhlendahl and Jens Mühlhoff, which is an impressive study of activism in which the use of one's own body appears as a last resort.
