Stone führt mit Führungspersönlichkeiten und Schlüsselfiguren beider Seiten intensive und aufschlussreiche Gespräche, die diese komplexe Problematik transparenter machen. Unter seinen Interviewpartnern sind keine geringeren als die früheren israelischen Ministerpräsidenten Shimon Peres, Ehud Barak und Benjamin Netanyahu, Hasan Yosef, der Sprecher des politischen Flügels der palästinensischen 'Hamas' und eine Gruppe maskierter Kämpfer der Al-Aqsa-Märtyrer-Brigaden. Die Gespräche, vor Ort und als direkte Reaktion auf die Ereignisse geführt, erhellen die Komplexität der Situation und die krassen Gegensätze der Meinungen und Emotionen. Bei dem Versuch, zu Arafat vorzudringen, geriet die Crew sogar zwischen die Fronten, als während des Pessa-Fests ein Selbstmordattentäter sich und 20 Israelis in die Luft sprengte, das israelische Militär die Straßen von Ramallah besetzte und Arafats Regierungsgebäude zerstörte.

The era of Yasser Arafat is over with the death of the Palestinian president. The question now arises as to whether and what the future of the Middle East peace process will look like. In March 2002, at a time when the fronts between Israelis and Palestinians have already hardened and the conflict is escalating again, director Oliver Stone searches Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and the Palestinian Ramallah for answers to questions about why the Middle East cannot find peace. Stone has intensive and insightful conversations with leaders and key figures from both sides that make this complex issue more transparent. Among his interviewees are none other than former Israeli Prime Ministers Shimon Peres, Ehud Barak and Benjamin Netanyahu, Hasan Yosef, the spokesman for the political wing of the Palestinian Hamas, and a group of masked fighters from the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. The conversations, conducted on the ground and in direct response to the events, shed light on the complexity of the situation and the stark contrasts of opinions and emotions. In their attempt to get to Arafat, the crew even got caught between the fronts when, during the Passa festival, a suicide bomber blew himself up and 20 Israelis, the Israeli military occupied the streets of Ramallah and destroyed Arafat's government buildings.
