Ob handgezeichnet oder im Computer generiert, die animierten Kurzfilme der dritten Ausgabe von Best of Animation öffnen das vielseitige Universum des Trickfilms. Zu sehen sind u.a. witzige Animationen von kämpfenden und balzenden Spitzmäusen, die eine ganz neue Seite der “Martial Arts” beleuchten. Oder der einzige Film weltweit, der sich für globale Erwärmung ausspricht! Der Puppentrickfilm “Premier Voyage” zeigt dagegen auf humorvolle Weise, wie sich die “neue” Vätergeneration liebevoll, aber leicht überfordert um ihre Bälger kümmern. Eher experimentell – sowohl in der Bildgestaltung als auch im Sounddesign – ist der baskische Zeichentrick-Film “Hezurbeltzak, una fosa comun”, der den Preis für Musik im Animationsfilm beim Trickfilm-Festival Stuttgart 2008 gewonnen hat und die Nähe vieler Animationsfilme zur bildenden Kunst deutlich macht. Auch der Stammgast der Reihe “Best of Animation”, der amerikanische Independent-Animator und Cartoonist Bill Plympton, ist wieder mit von Partie – dieses Mal mit einem Animationthriller um ein Killerkopfkissen. Die DVD versammelt die besten aktuellen Animationsfilme weltweit – darunter zahlreiche Preisträger und Oscar-nominierte Trickfilmperlen wie “Même les pigeons vont au paradis”. Oder der mit dem europäischen Trickfilmpreis “Cartoon d’Or” ausgezeichnete Film “The Pearce Sisters”: Ein ganz untypischer Film aus dem Hause Aardman (Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run) über zwei eigenartige Schwestern, die in einem einsamen Haus am Meer leben – nichts für schwache Gemüter, sehr viel jedoch für Freunde schwarzer, britischer Trickfilmunterhaltung!

Whether hand-drawn or computer-generated, the animated short films of the third edition of Best of Animation open up the versatile universe of animated film. Among other things, funny animations of fighting and courting shrews can be seen, which illuminate a whole new side of "martial arts". Or the only film in the world that speaks out in favour of global warming! The puppet animation film "Premier Voyage", on the other hand, shows in a humorous way how the "new" generation of fathers lovingly but slightly overwhelmed take care of their children. Rather experimental – both in terms of image design and sound design – is the Basque animated film "Hezurbeltzak, una fosa comun", which won the prize for music in animated film at the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film in 2008 and makes clear the proximity of many animated films to the visual arts. The regular guest of the "Best of Animation" series, the American independent animator and cartoonist Bill Plympton, is also back – this time with an animated thriller about a killer pillow. The DVD brings together the best current animated films worldwide – including numerous award winners and Oscar-nominated animated film gems such as "Même les pigeons vont au paradis". Or the film "The Pearce Sisters", which won the European Cartoon d'Or award: a very atypical film from Aardman (Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run) about two strange sisters who live in a lonely house by the sea – not for the faint of heart, but a lot for friends of black, British animated film entertainment!
