Bill Champlin war nicht nur lange Jahre die einprägsame Stimme der Band 'Chicago'. Der Sänger, Songwriter und versierte Session-Musiker reißt auch mit seinen eigenen Bands das Publikum von den Stühlen - dank einem vital gespielten, rhythmisch interessanten und harmonischen Rock, der kein Verfallsdatum kennt. Von klein auf kannte Bill Champlin nur eine Leidenschaft: die Musik. 1966 gründete er die Band 'The Sons of Champlin'. Und er wäre nicht ein Topschüler im Fach Musik gewesen, wenn er nicht auf strikte Eigenständigkeit gepocht hätte. So teilten die 'Sons of Champlin' mit den anderen großen Bands der Bay-Area wie etwa 'Grateful Dead' oder 'Quicksilver Messenger Service' zwar die Vorliebe für ausufernde Improvisationen und psychedelische Klangspiele, doch ihr Bläser-Sound und ihr Faible für knackigen Soul, Funk und Rhythm & Blues gaben ihnen ein unverwechselbares Profil. 1981 erlebte Bill Champlin den großen Durchbruch: als Mitglied von 'Chicago', jener Band, die 1969/70 als eine der ambitioniertesten US-Band galt. Bill Champlin was not only the memorable voice of the band 'Chicago' for many years. The singer, songwriter and accomplished session musician also sweeps the audience off their chairs with his own bands - thanks to a vitally played, rhythmically interesting and harmonious rock that knows no expiration date. From an early age, Bill Champlin knew only one passion: music. In 1966 he founded the band 'The Sons of Champlin'. And he wouldn't have been a top student in music if he hadn't insisted on strict independence. The 'Sons of Champlin' shared with the other big bands of the Bay Area such as the 'Grateful Dead' or 'Quicksilver Messenger Service' a penchant for sprawling improvisations and psychedelic sound games, but their brass sound and their penchant for crisp soul, funk and rhythm & blues gave them an unmistakable profile. In 1981, Bill Champlin experienced his big breakthrough: as a member of 'Chicago', the band that was considered one of the most ambitious US bands in 1969/70.
