Sie ist der Star des norwegischen Nationalballetts und mit 32 Jahren auf dem Höhepunkt ihrer Karriere. Maiko wünscht sich aber auch ein Kind. She is the star of the Norwegian National Ballet and at the age of 32 at the peak of her career. But Maiko also wants a child. When she becomes pregnant, another dream comes true. But can she live both dreams together? Maiko not only wants to get back on stage after the birth of her son, but also back to the top. She dares to do the almost impossible: seven months after giving birth, she will dance the leading role in the most demanding of all classical ballets: 'Swan Lake'. Light as a feather and graceful, Nishino floats across the stage. Her body seems to know no gravity. But what looks so natural and self-evident is hard work and the result of merciless training that begins at an early age. Maiko not only had the necessary talent, but also the iron will and discipline to make it to the celebrated prima ballerina. For her portrait, the Norwegian documentary filmmaker Åse Svenheim Drivenes montages high-contrast shots of training, stage performances and the 'intermediate realm' in the backdrops. Especially when Maiko sinks panting there after a terrific solo, it becomes vividly clear what passion must drive this dancer. After her son Eiliff was born, images of relaxed, intimate calm complete the multifaceted portrait of a modern, successful woman and great artist. In doing so, Drivenes relies primarily on the power of the images she was able to capture and less on spoken words.
