In der Stadt Bikini Bottom, irgendwo tief unten im Pazifik, lebt ein gelber, rechteckiger Schwamm namens SpongeBob Schwammkopf. Er wohnt in einer Ananas mit seiner miauenden Hausschnecke Gary und liebt seinen Job als Koch im Fast-Food-Imbiss "Krosse Krabbe". SpongeBob ist süss, freundlich, herzlich und ein bisschen streberhaft. Seine Absichten sind stets makellos, dennoch haben vor allem sein Nachbar Thaddäus und Mr. Krabs, der Geschäftsführer der "Krossen Krabbe" unter SpongeBobs gutgemeinten Übereifer zu leiden. Aber auch wenn alles schief geht, seine besten Freunde, der trottlige Seestern Patrick und das Eichhörnchen Sandy, halten zu ihm.
Der Bösewicht Plankton gründet ein Kolosseum in Bikini Bottom! Wird Patrick in der Arena gegen den Löwenfisch bestehen? Thaddäus versucht, beim Musikwettbewerb mit einem eigenen Beitrag zu punkten und bei der Schicke-Häuser-Show Siegbert Schnösel mit einem noch schickeren Haus zu toppen: Kann SpongeBob ihm dabei helfen? Währenddessen will Plankton aus ganz anderen, hinterhältigen Gründen mit SpongeBob eine Band gründen: Er will das Krabbenburger-Rezept! Wem der Penny gehört, den SpongeBob angeblich aufhob, und ob SpongeBob schließlich den Bootsführerschein bekommt, entscheiden Mr. Krabs und Mrs. Puff. In the town of Bikini Bottom, somewhere deep down in the Pacific, lives a yellow, rectangular sponge called SpongeBob SquarePants. He lives in a pineapple with his meowing house snail Gary and loves his job as a cook at the fast food snack bar "Krusty Krabbe". SpongeBob is sweet, friendly, warm and a bit nerdy. His intentions are always flawless, but his neighbor Squidward and Mr. Krabs, the manager of the Krusty Krab, suffer from SpongeBob's well-intentioned overzealousness. But even if everything goes wrong, his best friends, the goofy starfish Patrick and the squirrel Sandy, stick by him.
The villain Plankton founds a Colosseum in Bikini Bottom! Will Patrick stand up to the lionfish in the arena? Squidward tries to score points in the music competition with his own entry and to top Siegbert Schnösel with an even fancier house at the Schicke-Häuser show: Can SpongeBob help him? Meanwhile, Plankton wants to form a band with SpongeBob for completely different, devious reasons: He wants the Krabby Patty recipe! Who owns the penny that SpongeBob allegedly picked up, and whether SpongeBob will eventually get his boating license, will be decided by Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff.
