Die BBC zeichnete 1979 im Rahmen ihrer Reihe 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' in Glasgow ein energiegeladenes Set von Blondie auf. Die Wave-Band aus New York mit der platinblonden Sängerin Deborah Harry hatte gerade mit dem Disco-Knaller 'Heart of Glass' ihren größten Hit und war Anfang der 80er Jahre eine der populärsten Bands. Bei ihrem Auftritt im Apollo-Theater präsentierten Blondie auch einige ganz aktuelle Titel wie 'Union City Blue' oder 'Atomic', die erst Monate später zu Hits wurden. Musikalisch durchlebte die Band um Frontfrau Harry und ihren Lebensgefährten und Gitarristen Chris Stein zu jener Zeit einen Stilwechsel von dem Garagensound der ersten Produktionen zu gefälligeren Pop-Arrangements. Das kurze Set in Glasgow ist eine geglückte Mischung aus beiden Phasen. Der 40 minütige Mitschnitt der BBC dokumentiert die Live-Qualitäten von Blondie. Die Band kann rocken und hat in Deborah Harry eine Sängerin mit viel Ausstrahlung. Der Sound der DVD in Stereo ist etwas dumpf, dafür ist die Bildqualität für das Aufnahmejahr sehr gut. The BBC recorded an energetic set of Blondie in Glasgow in 1979 as part of its series 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'. The wave band from New York with platinum blonde singer Deborah Harry just had their biggest hit with the disco banger 'Heart of Glass' and was one of the most popular bands in the early 80s. At their performance at the Apollo Theater, Blondie also presented some very current titles such as 'Union City Blue' or 'Atomic', which only became hits months later. Musically, the band around frontwoman Harry and her partner and guitarist Chris Stein underwent a change of style at that time from the garage sound of the first productions to more pleasing pop arrangements. The short set in Glasgow is a successful mixture of both phases. The BBC's 40-minute recording documents Blondie's live qualities. The band can rock and has a singer with a lot of charisma in Deborah Harry. The sound of the DVD in stereo is a bit muffled, but the picture quality is very good for the year of recording.
