Der Film geht dorthin, wo der Konflikt um den grünen Strauch und das weiße Pulver am blutigsten tobt: nach Kolumbien. Er zeigt Bauern, Paramilitärs, Guerilleros und Dealer und beschreibt eindrücklich, wie ein Land von einem Drogenkrieg dominiert wurde und wird, während das Rauschmittel anderswo als Partykick dient. Und er zeigt die Yanacuna-Indianer in San Agustín, für die Coca ein essentieller Teil ihrer Naturreligion ist. Ein Anbauverbot wäre für sie gleichbedeutend mit dem Verlust ihrer Spiritualität...

Actually, coca is just a plant. But the cocaine extracted from the coca leaves is the reason for an ongoing war with countless deaths. The film goes to where the conflict over the green bush and the white powder rages most bloodily: to Colombia. It shows farmers, paramilitaries, guerrillas and dealers and impressively describes how a country was and is dominated by a drug war, while elsewhere the drug serves as a party kick. And it shows the Yanacuna Indians in San Agustín, for whom coca is an essential part of their natural religion. For her, a ban on cultivation would be tantamount to the loss of her spirituality...
