Gleich mit ihrem Debütalbum konnte Melissa Etheridge 1988 mit den Songs 'Bring Me Some Water' und 'Like The Way I Do' zwei Hits verzeichnen. Seither ist die Künstlerin mit der rauhen Stimme eine feste Größe im Musikgeschäft und erhielt unter anderem zwei Grammy-Awards. Außerdem wurde sie von den Juroren der amerikanischen Urheberrechtsgesellschaft ASCAP 1996 zur 'Songwriterin of the Year' ausgezeichnet. In ihren Texten greift sie immer wieder brisante Themen auf. Die erste DVD präsentiert ein zweistündiges Solo-Konzert vom 8. Dezember 2001 aus dem Kodak-Theater in Los Angeles im exquisiten 5.1 Surround Sound und PCM Stereo. Für Melissa Etheridge war die Live-and-Alone-Tournee die erste Konzertreihe ohne Bandbegleitung, abgesehen von den Soloauftritten in Bars und Clubs zu Beginn ihrer Karriere. Die Intensität ihrer Solo-Performance wird mit diesem DVD-Konzertmittschnitt beeindruckend dokumentiert. Die zweite DVD bietet neben einem Interview und einem interaktiven Tourtagebuch noch zwei Live-Bonus-Tracks 'Yes I Am' und 'Dance Without Sleeping' sowie Ausschnitte aus raren Solo-Konzerten von 1987 und einem Konzert mit Bandbegleitung aus dem vorigen Jahr. Zudem gibt es als Besonderheit noch zwei neue Songs 'Alone' und 'The Weakness In Me', die in einer herausragenden Soundqualität '24 Bit / 96KHz' präsentiert werden.

Since then, the artist with the rough voice has been a fixture in the music business and has received two Grammy Awards, among other awards. She was also named 'Songwriter of the Year' by the judges of the American copyright society ASCAP in 1996. In her lyrics, she repeatedly takes up explosive topics. Songs like 'I'm the Only One' or 'Come To My Window' also became international hits. On January 27, 2002, their double DVD 'Live and Alone' was released. The first DVD presents a two-hour solo concert from December 8, 2001 from the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles in exquisite 5.1 surround sound and PCM stereo. For Melissa Etheridge, the live and alone tour was the first concert series without band accompaniment, apart from solo performances in bars and clubs at the beginning of her career. The intensity of her solo performance is impressively documented with this DVD concert recording. The second DVD offers an interview and an interactive tour diary, two live bonus tracks 'Yes I Am' and 'Dance Without Sleeping' as well as excerpts from rare solo concerts from 1987 and a concert with band accompaniment from the previous year.
