Eine Institution, die sich seit nunmehr dreißig Jahren auf den Bühnen der Welt wohlfühlt. Anlässlich des 30-jährigen Jubiläums veröffentlicht 'Eagle Records' hier den Mitschnitt eines Konzertes, welches in England während der letzten Europatour gefilmt wurde. Der raue Blues, gepaart mit der unverkennbaren Stimme, kommt klanglich sauber aus den heimischen Speakern. Die Songauswahl führt durch die History von George Thorogood und lässt erkennen, was für Hits der Mann in der Zeit geschrieben hat, allen voran natürlich 'Bad to the bone'. Der Schwachpunkt des Mitschnitts liegt im Publikum begraben. Blues schreit nach Bewegung, nach Schweiss. Das sehr steril wirkende Publikum hat davon anscheinend noch nicht viel mitbekommen. Bloss nicht bewegen heißt die Devise, es könnte das Toupet verrutschen oder das Gebiss rausfallen. Hier zeigt sich leider deutlich, dass eine Bestuhlung bei Konzerten reichlich nervtötend sein kann. Wie man vor so einem Publikum einen dennoch fantastischen Gig auf die Bühne bringt, zeigen die Destroyers einzigartig. Bei der Band wird der Spass gross geschrieben, was man an der tighten Performancen erleben darf. Natürlich schafft man es auch hier nicht alle seine Erfolge auf DVD bzw. auf CD (erscheint zeitgleich) zu bannen, zu groß ist das Repertoire. Der ein oder andere wird sicher 'Madison Blues' oder auch 'Get a haircut' sträflich vermissen, aber bei 30 Jahren geht schon mal etwas unter. Auch wenn es sich um Klassiker handelt.

An institution that has felt at home on the stages of the world for thirty years now. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary, 'Eagle Records' releases a recording of a concert that was filmed in England during the last European tour. The rough blues, paired with the unmistakable voice, comes out of the speakers at home with a clean sound. The song selection leads through the history of George Thorogood and shows what kind of hits the man wrote in that time, first and foremost of course 'Bad to the bone'. The weak point of the recording is buried in the audience. Blues screams for movement, for sweat. The very sterile-looking audience apparently hasn't noticed much of it yet. Just don't move is the motto, the toupee could slip or the bit could fall out. Unfortunately, this clearly shows that seating at concerts can be quite annoying. How to bring a fantastic gig to the stage in front of such an audience is uniquely shown by the Destroyers. The band is committed to having fun, which you can experience in the tight performances. Of course, they don't manage to capture all their successes on DVD or CD (released at the same time), the repertoire is too large. One or the other will certainly miss 'Madison Blues' or 'Get a haircut', but at 30 years something gets lost. Even if they are classics.
