Texas' fastest five fingers on six strings, Stevie Ray Vaughan, died tragically and much too early in a helicopter crash in 1990. Born in Dallas in 1954, the guitarist, who has adored blues idols such as Albert King, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters since his early youth, was considered the most gifted virtuoso since Jimi Hendrix. With various formations, he toured the southern states for years. When Jackson Browne and David Bowie ('Let's Dance') finally offered him lucrative studio jobs, his star rose. In 1982, 'Epic' signed him and his backing combo 'Double Trouble'. The rest is history. The double DVD 'Live at Montreux' presents the virtuoso in two impressive concert recordings in 1982 and 1985 at the renowned 'International Jazz Festival Montreux'. While the former was created in the original trio line-up with bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton, three years later an extended line-up was presented with the two additional musicians Reese Wynans (keyboards) and special guest Johnny Copeland (vocals/guitar), both great moments of southern blues rock.
