'Deep Purple' als Urgestein des 'Hard Rock' zu bezeichnen, dürfte keine Beleidigung darstellen, gelten die Herren der Band doch zu den Mitbegründern der Hard-Rock-Bewegung und erzielten mit ihrem Eintrag ins Guiness-Buch der Rekorde als 'Lauteste Band der Welt' einen Achtungserfolg. Ein Titel, von dem viele junge Bands von heute wohl träumen dürfen. Im Laufe der Jahrzehnte wurde der Wechsel im Line Up der Band zu einem konstanten Faktor und auch ein musikalischer Wechsel vollzog sich von grandiosem Progressive Rock zu ohrenbetäubenden Heavy Metal, der von Kritikern oft bemängelt wurde. Eins ihrer bislang erfolgreichsten Alben Machine Head mit Multi Platin Verkäufen und dem Hit 'Smoke On The Water', spielte Deep Purple in die Reihen der Rock Elite und trotz all dieser Veränderungen hält sich die Band bis ins 21. Jahrhundert. Die Live- DVD Perihelion, aufgenommen in 2001 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, hält alle Hits bereit: 'Smoke On The Water', 'Hush', 'Woman From Tokyo' und viele mehr. A title that many young bands of today can probably dream of. Over the decades, the change in the band's line-up became a constant factor and also a musical change took place from grandiose progressive rock to deafening heavy metal, which was often criticized by critics.
