Den Hauptteil der 110 Minuten in 'Jethro Tull - Living with the Past' machen Aufnahmen von der 2001er Tour aus. Einige Schnitte und Handycam-Einstellungen sind zwar etwas hektisch geraten, was angesichts des brillanten Sounds und der atemberaubenden Performance der Band aber kaum auffällt. Immer wieder unterbrochen von kurzen, pointierten Interview-Sequenzen, rockt das fünfköpfige Ensemble mit unglaublicher Tightness, Power und Spielfreude durch unentbehrliche Klassiker wie 'Thick As A Brick', 'Bourée', 'Aqualung' und 'Locomotive Breath', bringt aber auch zahlreiche rarere Konzert-Nummern à la "Budapest' oder neuere, herausragende Tracks wie 'Roots to Branches' und 'Hunt By Numbers'. Insbesondere Frontmann Anderson singt und flötet mit einer derartigen Jungspund-Frische, dass man kaum glauben mag, dass dieser Mann in seiner Karriere schon fast 3.000 Konzerte absolviert hat. Abgerundet wird das Programm von zwei Songs, die mit dem Original-Line-up von 1968 neu interpretiert werden, und zwei Stücken, bei denen sich Anderson von einem Streichquartett begleiten lässt. Treue Fans werden darüber hinaus erfreut feststellen, dass die Setlist nur etwa zur Hälfte mit der der gleichnamigen CD übereinstimmt.

The main part of the 110 minutes in 'Jethro Tull - Living with the Past' is made up of footage from the 2001 tour. Some cuts and handycam shots are a bit hectic, but this is hardly noticeable in view of the brilliant sound and the breathtaking performance of the band. Interrupted again and again by short, pointed interview sequences, the five-member ensemble rocks with incredible tightness, power and joy of playing through indispensable classics such as 'Thick As A Brick', 'Bourée', 'Aqualung' and 'Locomotive Breath', but also brings numerous rarer concert numbers à la "Budapest" or newer, outstanding tracks such as 'Roots to Branches' and 'Hunt By Numbers'. Frontman Anderson in particular sings and whistles with such a youngster freshness that it is hard to believe that this man has already played almost 3,000 concerts in his career. The program is rounded off by two songs that are reinterpreted with the original line-up from 1968, and two pieces in which Anderson is accompanied by a string quartet. Loyal fans will also be pleased to note that the setlist is only about half the same as that of the CD of the same name.
