Die Jungs von 'Barenaked Ladies' adäquat zu beschreiben, bringt wahrscheinlich jeden Musikredakteur ins Schwitzen. Zutreffende Adjektive wären z. B. unglaublich komisch, intelligent, energiegeladen, verrückt und natürlich, manchmal, eben auch nackt. Ihre Musik ist nicht nur Rock, sondern auch Folk, Pop, Rap, Jazz und noch alle erdenklichen anderen Musikstile, die ihnen so einfallen. Überhaupt ist Humor ein zentrales Element in den Texten ('Be My Yoko Ono') und in der Selbstdarstellung der Band. Trends zu folgen ist ihnen nicht so wichtig, wie ihren eigenen Kopf und ihre Vorlieben durchzusetzen. Der Erfolg gibt Ihnen recht. Benannt nach einer Bob-Dylan-Songzeile starteten die Jungs 1988 ihren phänomenalen Siegeszug durch die Musikwelt in Kanada. Ihr Debüt gaben sie mit Gordon und dem Album folgten seitdem fünf weitere, viele davon Platin-prämiert. In ihrer Heimat und den USA schon längst absolute Superstars, sind sie in Europa noch verkannt. Das einzige Konzert, das sie in Deutschland gaben, war dagegen restlos ausverkauft. Vielleicht brauchen Musikfans hierzulande erst einen visuellen Eindruck von dieser Band, um sicher zu sein, dass sie nicht mehr ohne sie sein können. Die DVD 'Barenaked Ladies - Stunt Tour' zeigt gleich zwei Facetten der Band: einmal die Dokumentation 'Barenaked in America', in der die Jungs während der Tournee backstage gefilmt wurden, und 'Stunt Tour' zeigt die besten Aufnahmen aus ihrer bisher erfolgreichsten Tour 1999. Große Ehre wurde ihnen dieses Jahr von ihrem Idol Brian Wilson erwiesen. Der bewies Selbstironie, indem er, während seiner Deutschlandtournee, kurz einen Song der 'Barenaked Ladies' anstimmte. To adequately describe the guys of 'Barenaked Ladies' probably makes every music editor sweat. Appropriate adjectives would be, for example, incredibly funny, intelligent, energetic, crazy and natural, sometimes, even naked. Their music is not only rock, but also folk, pop, rap, jazz and every conceivable other style of music that comes to mind. In general, humor is a central element in the lyrics ('Be My Yoko Ono') and in the band's self-presentation. Following trends is not as important to them as asserting their own minds and preferences. The success proves you right. Named after a Bob Dylan song line, the boys started their phenomenal triumphal march through the music world in Canada in 1988. They made their debut with Gordon and the album has since been followed by five more, many of them platinum. In their home country and the USA, they have long been absolute superstars, but in Europe they are still misunderstood. The only concert they gave in Germany, on the other hand, was completely sold out. Perhaps music fans in this country first need a visual impression of this band to be sure that they can no longer be without them. The DVD 'Barenaked Ladies - Stunt Tour' shows two facets of the band: the documentary 'Barenaked in America', in which the guys were filmed backstage during the tour, and 'Stunt Tour' shows the best footage from their most successful tour so far in 1999. They were given a great honour this year by their idol Brian Wilson. He proved self-irony by briefly singing a song by the 'Barenaked Ladies' during his German tour.
