'Am Kölnberg' war ein Studienprojekt der jungen Regisseure Laurentia Genske und Robin Humboldt an der Kunsthochschule für Medien in Köln und der Überraschungserfolg in der deutschen Dokumentarfilmlandschaft 2015. Am südlichen Ende Kölns, vor den Toren der Stadt, steht die Hochhaussiedlung 'Am Kölnberg', ein sogenannter Problemstadtteil. Auf engstem Raum leben hier die unterschiedlichsten Kulturen und Biografien nebeneinander. Der Film begleitet über zwei Jahre hinweg vier Menschen am Kölnberg und dokumentiert ihr Leben in Höhen und Tiefen, den Kampf gegen die Sucht und das Überleben im Alltag. Mit ihrer Unvoreingenommenheit, ihrem Respekt und ihrer Offenheit gegenüber den Menschen, die sie filmen, ist den Regisseuren ein intensives Porträt außergewöhnlicher Charaktere gelungen, jenseits von Boulevard und Sozial-Drama.
'Am Kölnberg' was a study project by the young directors Laurentia Genske and Robin Humboldt at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne and the surprise success in the German documentary film landscape in 2015. At the southern end of Cologne, at the gates of the city, stands the high-rise housing estate 'Am Kölnberg', a so-called problem district. Here, the most diverse cultures and biographies live side by side in a very small space. The film accompanies four people on the Kölnberg over a period of two years and documents their lives in ups and downs, the fight against addiction and survival in everyday life. With their impartiality, respect and openness towards the people they film, the directors have succeeded in creating an intense portrait of extraordinary characters, beyond the tabloid and social drama.
